We are looking for an Investments Compliance Lead to join our team on a 12 months fixed term contract.
Where in Wellcome will I be working?You will be leading and directing effective identification, assessment, management, monitoring, and mitigation of compliance and regulatory risk resulting from the operations of Wellcome's Investments Team working in the Legal (Investments) team reporting to Associate General Counsel, Investments.
What will I be doing?In this role you will provide advice to ensure Wellcome's Investment team meet the regulatory requirements applicable to their activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for ongoing review of financial services regulation and best practice in the UK and elsewhere and making recommendations on (i) standards relevant to Wellcome Investment Team activities and (ii) how to implement such standards. You will also work with the Investment Executive, Wellcome's Legal team and Wellcome's Risk team to foster a strong control and compliance culture in the Investments team.
As Investments Compliance Lead, you will be responsible for:
- Project work:
- Reviewing the compliance manual for Wellcome's Investment Team and reporting on it to the Investment Executive and the Associate General Counsel (AGC), Investments including reporting whether the manual meets Wellcome's risk appetite and applicable risk tolerance levels.
- Reviewing existing compliance training programs (including in relation to financial crime and personal account dealing/market abuse) and reporting on them to the Investment Executive and the AGC, Investments, as well as developing those compliance training programs required by the compliance manual which have not yet been implemented and embedding the personal dealing monitoring and approval software procured by Wellcome.
- Ongoing work:
- Scoping future resourcing requirements in relation to compliance activities relating to Wellcome's Investment Team, being the compliance officer for Wellcome's Investment Team and responsible for overseeing Wellcome's Investment Team's compliance program, and ensuring Wellcome's Investment Team adhere to legal and regulatory standards and in-house policies.
- Providing advisory services to the Investment Executive and the AGC, Investments on compliance-related matters, providing ongoing compliance training programs in areas required by the compliance manual and advising on the requirements applicable to Wellcome's listed bonds, conducting internal reviews and audits to ensure compliance procedures are followed and that compliance is appropriately recorded and reported.
- Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments.
We are looking for someone who possesses senior-level experience in financial services legal compliance with expert knowledge of UK and US regulations, especially those affecting asset managers, along with strong project management skills, the ability to balance multiple priorities, adapt to dynamic business needs, and confidently lead workstreams.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working in a financial services legal compliance or risk and compliance role at a senior level, expert knowledge of regulation affecting financial markets including UK and US financial markets ideally with a focus on regulation applicable to asset managers.
- Project management experience with a proven history of balancing multiple competing priorities with the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the business while meeting deadlines and commitments in a sometimes fast-paced environment as well as the ability, confidence and willingness to lead workstreams where required.
- Demonstrated ability to apply risk appetite and tolerances to legal, regulatory and best practice requirements and to present the conclusions / make recommendations.
- Ability to spot and pre-empt issues and provide incisive, practical advice and counsel, or escalate to the Lead as required.
