Description

Morgan Stanley is searching for an individual responsible for the independent identification, analysis, reporting and escalation of all market risk exposures arising from EMEA business activities, acting independently of business management and providing an effective challenge process.

The role will reside within Firm Risk Management's Market Risk Department and sits within the Traded Credit Risk which covers both flow and structured products. The successful candidate will be primarily focused on the credit flow part of the business: risk managing EM/DM bond/CDS as well as index and index option market making. There will also be the opportunity to gain exposure to structured products.

What will you be doing?
  • As a desk-facing manager, ability to independently challenge traders, trading management and strategists with appropriate escalation of risks identified to senior risk managers. Close collaboration with the credit, finance, valuation control functions.
  • Understand and explain relationship between risks and P&L volatility.
  • Train and mentor junior members of the team.
  • Contribute to the assessment of the suitability and performance of pricing, risk and capital models and work with relevant groups to address material deficiencies.
  • Real-time involvement in approval of block transactions. Performing deal analysis, including independently assessing overlooked risks, agreeing hedging strategies with the Front Office, determining approval standards and writing concise decision support briefs.
  • Data exploration (through SQL, Python, Excel, VBA) in order to shed light onto new risks. Either existing technical skills or willingness to learn those.
  • Involvement in strategic Firm initiatives such as FRTB, ICAAP, stress testing and infrastructure enhancement projects.
Qualifications

What we're looking for:

  • Degree, or equivalent, in a quantitative subject, mathematics or statistics.
  • 4+ years experience in risk management and/or quantitative field in a sell-side institution required, prior experience with risk managing credit-risky portfolios.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Confidence to take ideas forward and to challenge others, where appropriate, with experience in management by influence, facilitating and gaining consensus.

  • Ability to work independently in a self-directed way in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders and deliver clear risk presentations to senior management.
  • Strong organizational skills with an interest in working in a fast-paced environment, often balancing multiple high priority deliverables.
