The opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to work in EY's Global Grants Credits & Incentives team based in our central London office, alongside other STEM professionals, as well as tax and accounting colleagues.
As a Science/Engineering Consultant, you will be working with a variety of clients from owner-managed businesses to multinational groups, who are at the forefront in developing cutting-edge technology and exploring new areas of science.
The successful candidate will get the opportunity to work as part of a diverse team of highly successful industry and tax specialists. You will be required to participate in technical discussions with the senior and lead technical personnel within our client network across a wide range of different industries to help identify the scientific and technological aspects of their Research & Development (R&D) projects that qualify for R&D tax relief. You will play an active role in writing and reviewing reports of clients' R&D projects and taking part in extensive client communication.
As well as working directly with existing clients, you will also be offered the chance to support business development opportunities and collaborate with colleagues across the wider EY network covering numerous disciplines.
Your key responsibilities
- Working as an effective member of varied project teams, exhibiting strong communication skills and being able to work collaboratively with other team members of different skill sets.
- Writing and reviewing compelling technical project reports to bring out the key technical factors of client projects to support R&D tax claims.
- Interaction with clients' senior technical and engineering staff in order to develop a comprehensive understanding of the projects undertaken and identify how aspects of projects meet the R&D Guidelines.
- Application of advanced problem-solving skills and critical thinking to project execution and delivery.
- Building and maintaining relationships with clients to provide high levels of client service.
- Responsible for high-quality delivery of advice and solutions to key clients of the firm, ensuring management of risk and reputation.
- A keen desire to adapt and flex existing knowledge to different sectors and build on core capabilities.
Skills and attributes for success
- A strong interest in science, technology, and engineering topics.
- Industry-based experience in dealing with technological challenges faced by industry professionals, such as those arising during engineering design, experimental processes, development of new products or improvement to existing products, and development of new knowledge in existing or new areas of science.
- The ability to swiftly adapt to and learn about different industry sectors such as automotive, aerospace, civil & mechanical engineering, defence, food & drink, life sciences, and electronics, along with strong business acumen.
- Ability to interact readily with other technical professionals, possessing great interpersonal skills and excelling in producing concise summaries of information.
- Strong attention to detail and first-time accuracy is essential.
- Interest in project and company finances and the application of tax treatment.
To qualify for the role, you must have
- Degree qualified in Science, technology, or engineering.
- Science, technology, or engineering industry experience (1+ years).
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills with a collaborative approach to management.
- The flexibility to constantly learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
