General Practitioner with Extended Role in Child and Adolescent Mental Health (2 vacancies). The Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Sussex have an exciting opportunity for two permanent, Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) GP with Extended Roles (GpwER) to join their Coastal West Sussex based team.
This is an exciting opportunity to play an integral part in prioritising the delivery of a safe, effective and caring service to those young people (0-18 yrs) with Mental Health Difficulties and their families/carers within Sussex.

Main duties of the jobThis new role offers the opportunity to develop specialist mental health skills working closely with the Consultant Psychiatrists in our team. The three days a week spent within Coastal CAMHS will allow the post holder to provide high quality care to Children and Young People with a broad spectrum of mental health and emotional difficulties. Up to 2 further days would be spent working in General Practice (funded by practice).
- Medication review clinics for Children and Young People under the care of Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists in the team.
- Deprescribing clinics aiming to titrate down and withdraw antidepressant treatment for Children and Young people in accordance with NICE guidelines.
- Clinical reviews for Children and Young People who have received and not responded to psychological therapies, in accordance with NICE guidelines.
- Antipsychotic monitoring for Children and young people who require extended periods of use of these medications.
- Targeted psychoeducation sessions for Children and Young People relating to their clinical need.
- Co-leading the feeding and eating pathway within Coastal CAMHS for young people who are at risk of physical health complications due to low weight that is not secondary to Anorexia Nervosa/Bulimia Nervosa and therefore not under our specialist Family Eating Disorders Service (FEDS).
- Undertaking and supporting Initial Assessments for young people referred in to Coastal CAMHS.
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCGP or MRCGP equivalent
- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
- Fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice at the time of appointment
- Eligible, or within 6 months of being eligible, for inclusion on the GMC General Practitioner Register
- On the National GP Performers list
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Excellent organisational skills
- Excellent knowledge in General Practice, applied in a primary care setting
- Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
- Experience of MDT working
- Experience of working with children and young people in secondary care and hospital settings
- Experience working in a psychiatry community or hospital setting
- Experience taking a lead role relating to mental health in a primary care setting
- Experience in using psychological therapies (e.g. CBT, systemic therapy, DBT)
