Responsible for setting the strategic direction of the design and engineering aspects of the data centre's including R and D and technology.

Job Summary

As Global Head of Design and Engineering, this position will play a pivotal role in setting and developing the Colt DCS technical strategy across the business. With a key focus on managing a team of subject matters experts across a variety of Engineering disciplines, this role will drive technical optimisation and system efficiencies in all areas.

Operating closely with our key client stakeholders and specialist supply chain, you will lead a team of experts in exploring market trends and new technologies. Ensuring Colt DCS are at the forefront of technical advancements and our Data Centre Designs are capable of delivering to market needs. Acting as the foremost technical authority with regards to the Colt DCS Global Reference Design (GRD), you will develop and update the blueprint for how Hyperscale facilities are delivered across the globe.

Job Description

Typical tasks and responsibilities will include:

• To manage a team of reports within the Global Engineering team, leading the Colt DCS's Engineering team into the future
• Supporting the Global Senior Development Director as required for successful outcomes in all required matters
• Provide guidance, management and assistance to other Engineering & commissioning teams, site management teams and operations on all matters relating to the Colt DCS design.
• To own the Colt DCS Global Reference Design (GRD) and update it continually to meet latest industry and business requirements
• To work with our vendors and suppliers on latest technology, industry trends and undertake R&D on potential new equipment in line with the GRD and Direct Procurement strategy.
• Align with other functions to improve process and communications.
• Deliver engineering support to ensure that Colt utilises optimal technologies and designs on the most cost effective (TCO) basis available in the market
• Drive value creation from our supply chain partners
• To liaise with customers on requirements and translate into solutions to win business and improve relationships
• Technical lead on the Direct Procurement to select appropriate vendors
• Implement, and standardise as far as practically possible, Colt's highest standards of cost, quality and programme control throughout the design and build phases of multiple projects in multiple countries
• To work with other functions and end users / customers to ensure the product and design remain up to date and suitable
• Analyse design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
• Driving standardisation across the design to impact costs, speed and quality of work
• Coordinate and direct the integration of technical activities to achieve business goals
• To be the technical matter subject matter expert for the business, conveying ideas and concepts to senior stakeholders, both internally and externally.
• Review equipment failures and diagnose faulty operations ensuring lessons learned are documented and reviewed for future projects.
• Challenge the knowledge base of today to ensure improvement for tomorrow
• Collect and analyse data relating to operating efficiency of installed systems and equipment
• Undertake technical training to the remainder of the Real Estate team or wider business
• Ensure timely resolution of issues and deficiencies and develop and implement contingency plans to mitigate business risk.

Colt is committed to creating an amazing working environment which includes offering flexible ways of working. Launched in November 2022, Flexible First, has been designed with the help of our colleagues (or 'Colties'as we call them) through an extensive 6+ month Hybrid Pilot and we're continuing to explore how our approach will evolve with the ambition of offering even greater flexibility in the future. There are no set minimum days in the office, except where these are linked to local country arrangements / allowances etc and people can work from any Colt country for up to 30 days per calendar year, subject to remote working abroad guidelines.
