Java Developer

On behalf of this organisation, AMS are looking for a Java Developer for an initial 12 month contract based in London with remote working available.

Purpose of the Role:

You will join the Applications Services team inside Risk Systems who are responsible for the user interfaces and related services:

• Risk Navigator: the platform for provision of the tools needed to manage market and counterparty risk.
• A suite of credit risk applications.
• Service Provision and Data Governance Tool.
• Administration and Monitoring application for risk systems.
• Market Risk eXplorer (MRX): existing market risk system.

The primary goal is "IT resilience" to reinforce the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of applications, but also be flexible enough to switch to other Business projects or smaller scale enhancements if required. The role is a technical programming role, focusing on the user interface developments covering enhancement and changes for our strategic new components whilst ensuring compatibility with our Legacy tools.

Responsibilities of the role:

As a Java Developer you will be responsible for:

• Design, develop and implement systems software/scripts that improve the stability, scalability, availability, and latency of the Risk system applications and reliable Java code.
• Contribute to the adoption of a best-in-class monitoring framework to accomplish end-to-end flow monitoring and effective alerting.
• Integration of user-facing elements developed by Front End developers with Server Side logic.
• Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of the applications.
• Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to these problems.
• Design and implementation of low-latency, high-availability, and performant applications.
• Help maintain code quality, organization, and automatization.
• Integration with a variety of data storage solutions.
• Rapidly prototyping solutions to quickly prove/disprove new concepts.

What we require from the candidate:

• Proficient in Java with a good knowledge of its ecosystem (RESTful, Spring framework, JPA/Hibernate)
• Familiar with Java application design and architectural pattern.
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming and functional programming paradigms.
• Able to incrementally deliver Server Side applications to meet dynamic customer requirements.
• Understanding fundamental design principles behind a scalable application.
• Knowledge of multithreaded design and concurrency patterns in Java.
• Knack for writing clean and readable code.
• Strong unit test and debugging skills.
• Knowledge of Continuous Integration Continuous delivery tools: TeamCity/BitBucket/Ansible.
• Basic understanding of Front End technologies, such as JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
