The Architecture Profession provides a range of services to our internal and external stakeholders. We provide technical & solution architecture design, technical consultancy, and technical/solution architecture ownership to national scale NHS programmes & organisations. The work we do makes a difference to patients and NHS staff at a national level. The Technology and Data Integration function of Data Services is responsible for designing and assuring the data platforms at the heart of the NHS. Working with colleagues across data services and the wider transformation directorate and health and social care ecosystem, our role is to ensure that these platforms make data available to those that need to access it whilst safeguarding the sensitivity and privacy of patient and workforce data, allowing world-class analysis for health and social care operations and policy making.
Main duties of the jobWe have a need for senior solution architects who have expertise in one of three specialist domains - Solution Architecture, Security Architecture or Enterprise Architecture, and ideally experience working with large scale data platforms. As a Senior Solution Architect, you will typically be responsible for the architecture for a large-scale system or domain, providing leadership to a team of Architects and providing support to the Lead Technical or Solution Architect. Some of the skills and experience we're looking for are: deep knowledge of specific technical domains (Security, Enterprise or Solution Architecture) and experience providing advice regarding their application; experience of making credible technical decisions and communicating these with sensitivity and diplomacy to ensure the right technical direction is followed; experience of leading and delivering technical change, challenging the status-quo, anticipating problems and monitoring implementation progress; experience of contributing to the creation and review of a systems capability strategy which meets the strategic requirements of the business; experience of managing staff to deliver across a large and complex domain of work, in terms of transaction and data volumes, technology complexity and number of active users; experience of developing models and plans to drive forward the strategy, taking advantage of opportunities to improve business performance.
Person Specification Knowledge- Has knowledge of specific technical specialisms and is experienced in providing advice regarding their application. The specialism can be any relevant area of information technology, technique, method, product or application area (ideally Solution, Enterprise or Security Architecture).
- Experienced in the provision of well-informed technology advice, taking steps to ensure that it is properly understood and appropriately exploited, to enhance the effectiveness of significant activities.
- Experienced in initiating communications between stakeholders, acting as a single "technical" point of contact for defined groups.
- Experience in the identification and application of design principles, policies and standards across a variety of programmes.
- Demonstrable evidence of leadership in the development of system and solution architectures in specific or service-wide business or functional areas.
- Degree or equivalent higher education qualification, specifically in a computing, scientific or mathematical subject (or equivalent such as would be acquired through a taught Masters course).
