Do you have the ambition, enthusiasm and technical capability to work with us as a Consultant within the Water Resources Planning sector? Our highly respected Water Management Consultancy team has been at the forefront of new developments for the latest Water Resource Management Planning cycle and has been applying new tools, such as Pywr, that are revolutionising how the industry plans resilient and sustainable water supplies for the future. We are building on this success to grow our team and continue to deliver a wide range of exciting, high-profile projects for water companies and regional water resource groups. You will support the existing team, growing our reputation for technical excellence and working collaboratively to both win and deliver work across our extensive client portfolio.

As an experienced water resources specialist, you will be capable of working on your own, within technical teams to deliver high-profile projects across the UK as required. We would expect the role to grow to incorporate project management and client-facing experience. With our technical specialists based all across the UK, the right candidate could join any of our established teams in Birmingham, Bristol, Derby, Epsom, Glasgow, Oxford, Peterborough, or Manchester.

Responsibilities:

  • Joining a well-established and successful team, you will work with our Technical Authority and Technical Leads to support winning, delivering and managing our portfolio of water resources projects.
  • You will champion high standards of performance, and influence project development. With prior experience in the field, you will undertake your own work to an excellent standard, and work closely with the team and clients to develop trusted relationships, supporting them in a confident, professional manner.
  • You will support on bid preparation and develop new areas of business for the team.
  • We will support and train you with all of this and make sure that you can undertake Continual Professional Development.
  • At consultant level you will be developing as a specialist, with the ability to support on complex projects in your areas of expertise and work closely with the team to further develop the group's objectives, portfolio of projects and clients, and digital tools.

Requirements:

  • With a degree or higher in an engineering, environmental or science subject, you are likely to be chartered or working towards chartership through CIWEM or another relevant professional body. You will have comprehensive knowledge in water resources planning, with experience of drought planning and/or the Water Resource Management Plan (WRMP) process. This experience should include the various components of the WRMP, such as calculating various components of the supply-demand balance, demand forecasting, options appraisal, uncertainty and risk (e.g. headroom and outage), and investment modelling.
  • Experience and capability of applying approaches and using industry-wide models would be desirable, including Aquator, Miser or Pywr water resource models. As an increasing proportion of our work is undertaken in Python or R programming packages, an ability to work within these programming environments is desirable. Similarly, an ability to develop new and innovative approaches is encouraged, to help us continue to develop our digital tools.
  • Working across the wider WMC group, you will be able to support on Environmental Assessments, including water quality monitoring programmes and stakeholder engagement.
  • You will be highly motivated and proactive, with a confident and professional manner. You will have excellent numerical, analytical, report-writing and presentational skills and be able to demonstrate delivery of exceptional technical work within the water sector. Your outstanding interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively at all levels will suit collaborative working and the building of high-quality client relationships.
