Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This is a special role for someone with hospitality experience who wants to learn more about life as an activities instructor. Raasay House is a hotel with 24 rooms of varying sizes, and we also host school groups who have been staying with us annually for the last 30 years in some cases!

When we have school groups visiting, you would be joining a team of 5-7 qualified instructors leading activities like kayaking, coasteering, archery, rock climbing, and more. Your season would consist mainly of helping with school groups in the spring and fall, performing other duties such as housekeeping or waiting tables during the summer and other times when you're not needed for activities.

This role is ideal for someone who has worked in restaurants or hotels before and would also like to try their hand at running outdoor activity sessions with school groups, hotel guests, and other island visitors. First aid training and/or experience as an instructor are a bonus but not required.

What do we expect from you?

  1. That you are interested in assisting instructors with the running of activities.
  2. That you are reliable, punctual, and responsible.
  3. That you have experience and interest in working in another area of the hotel when you aren't needed as an instructor, such as front of house, bartending, or housekeeping.
  4. That you are flexible, friendly, and excited to learn new things!

WAGE:

This is a seasonal position offering an hourly rate of £12.60 (or more depending on experience), plus tips, which are shared among staff based on hours worked.

DURATION OF EMPLOYMENT & LIFESTYLE BENEFITS:

Our business is a seasonal one and we work very hard in the 8-month season that we are open. A typical work week is anywhere from 40-48 hours, spread over five or six days. We close all Sundays (except for breakfast, which we serve to a smaller number of guests than during the week). All employees get a 30-minute unpaid break on shifts that last for more than 6 hours. We also offer paid leave calculated at 12.07%, equivalent to 28 days annually.

We take fair pay very seriously and use a straightforward system to clock in and out on all shifts, which means you are paid for every minute you work.

Raasay is a very small island, so we offer subsidised accommodation as part of our staffing package. You can stay in a room in the staff house in Inverarish village (about 20 minutes' walk from the hotel) or a single wooden cabin on site if you prefer (1 minute walk from the hotel). All staff meals are included every day, whether you are working or not.

Other benefits include free outdoor activity sessions, wildlife boat trips, free bike hire, and discounts throughout the hotel for you and your friends and family. We participate in the ride-to-work scheme as well as UK pension and other employee benefits.

Please note that we have plenty of housekeeping, bar, reception, and kitchen jobs available so feel free to include a CV for your partner or a friend when applying. All candidates must be able to demonstrate that they are legally allowed to work in the UK.
