Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR - Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.

Applications are welcome for the above Permanent, full time (40 hours per week) posts based in Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

This is an opportunity to join an enthusiastic and dynamic group of 12 anaesthetists who support the cardiothoracic services in Edinburgh. This post is available immediately.

You should have a clear interest in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and critical care and also have considerable experience in transoesophageal echocardiography. The post is full time with 9 direct clinical care programmed activities and 1 supporting professional activity. Up to two extra programmed activities may be available depending on the needs of the service.

A full range of conventional cardiothoracic services are offered in Edinburgh in addition to some more specialised procedures including minimally invasive mitral valve surgery; thoracic aortic surgery (in collaboration with the national TAAA service) and the national TAVI service.

The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh has a large anaesthetic department that has close links with the University of Edinburgh Department of Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine. As a result, a range of opportunities exist for teaching, research and quality improvement work.

Edinburgh is a fantastic, vibrant city with a wide range of cultural and leisure pursuits available. Out with the centre, there is easy access to the beautiful surrounding countryside and coastline.
