The role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounts Receivable (AR) Manager to join our finance team on a temporary basis to cover a maternity leave period. This role is critical in ensuring the continued smooth operation of our AR processes and maintaining strong cash flow management during this time. You will be responsible for overseeing the full AR function, managing customer accounts, ensuring timely collections, and supporting the wider finance team with reporting and reconciliations.
In our fast-paced and dynamic SME technology business, your ability to hit the ground running, work independently, and maintain accuracy under tight deadlines will be key to your success. You will also play a vital role in maintaining positive client relationships and providing leadership to the AR team.
Key responsibilities
- Accounts Receivable Management:
- Oversee the end-to-end accounts receivable process, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing.
- Manage the credit control function, ensuring timely collection of outstanding debts.
- Monitor aged debtors reports and proactively follow up with customers on overdue accounts.
- Provide regular reports on AR performance, aged debtors, and cash flow to the Finance Manager and leadership team.
- Assist with month-end close processes by ensuring accurate revenue recognition and reconciliations of AR ledgers.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers to facilitate prompt payments and resolve issues quickly.
- Handle customer disputes and work collaboratively to resolve payment delays.
- Ensure AR processes comply with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify opportunities to streamline AR workflows and improve efficiency.
- Support the implementation and optimization of financial systems related to AR.
- Provide guidance and support to junior AR team members, ensuring continuity and consistency in processes.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including sales and customer service to resolve AR issues.
- Support the wider finance team as required during the maternity leave period.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as an Accounts Receivable Manager or in a similar AR leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of AR processes, credit control, and cash collection best practices.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage challenging conversations professionally.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail in maintaining customer records and processing transactions.
- Proficiency in Excel and experience working with financial/accounting systems.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet tight deadlines.
- Experience in an SME and/or technology business environment is advantageous.
