An exciting opportunity to join our team of pharmacists and technicians at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. The successful applicant will complete a guided training plan, evidenced against the RPS Cancer Care framework, to progress from band 7 to 8a, with an opportunity to complete independent prescribing if not already achieved. Applicants with appropriate and relevant experience can be considered for appointment at band 8a. We encourage ongoing professional development; several pharmacists in our team are undertaking an MSc and we have two Consultant Pharmacists.
The Haematology Service based at the Hallamshire Hospital serves a population across Sheffield and surrounding region. We are a JACIE accredited bone marrow transplant and CAR-T centre.
Pharmacy Cancer services have undergone recent transformation, and The Cytotoxic Aseptic Unit has recently completed a multi-million-pound refurbishment and expansion to include a Gene Therapy unit.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking and self-motivated pharmacist with some previous experience in haematology or oncology. The successful applicant will join an established team of dynamic pharmacists and technicians providing specialist pharmaceutical care to patients in haematology services. Our current team have specialist roles in CAR-T, BMT, clinical trials, advanced care and prescribing. Recently we have expanded our team to include an advanced pharmacy technician for ambulatory care.
Main duties of the job- To lead, deliver, develop and evaluate clinical pharmacy services to the Haematology Specialised Medicine directorate in accordance with the objectives set by the Principal Pharmacist and Clinical Directorate management representative (where applicable) in order to ensure safe, clinically effective and cost efficient use of drugs.
- To deliver the aseptic and cytotoxic pharmacy service under the instruction of the Principal Pharmacist for Chemotherapy and Cytotoxic Unit, in accordance with MHRA Rules and Guidance documents.
- Contribute to pharmacy service provision for cancer services including clinical activity, aseptic/cytotoxic services, education and training, governance, audit and research.
- To provide pharmacy departmental services and contribute to the out of hours service.
- To participate in service development and demonstrate use of critical evaluation skills.

Please also note this vacancy is banded dependent upon applicants' experience relevant to this post. The banding of the successful applicant/s will start at Band 7 unless applicants meet the necessary threshold of skills and experience required to start on Band 8a. Also, willing to train applicants from Band 7 to Band 8a.

Person Specification Qualifications- (Band 7 & 8a) MPharm degree in pharmacy
- (Band 7 & 8a) Registered Pharmacist with GPhC
- (Band 7 & 8a) Post-graduate certificate in Clinical Pharmacy
- (Band 8a) Higher degree/Post-graduate diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent post-graduate diploma in specialist area
- (Band 7) Higher degree/Post-graduate diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent post-graduate diploma in specialist area
- (Band 7 & 8a) Post-graduate Masters in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent)
- (Band 7 & 8a) Registered Independent Prescriber
- (Band 7) Significant post registration experience in a wide range of clinical pharmacy specialities.
- (Band 8a) Suitable clinical experience in oncology and/or Haematology as well as in palliative care and/or end of life care
- (Band 8a) Experience in clinical verification of SACT prescriptions
- (Band 8a) Experience of staff supervision/management
- (Band 8a) Experience of regular contribution to multi-professional ward rounds or MDT.
- (Band 8a) Experience of working within service development projects.
- (Band 8a) Extensive post registration experience in a wide range of clinical pharmacy specialities.
