Freelance AI Engineer (Financial Sector) - Brussels (Hybrid, 12 Months)

Overview

We are looking for a skilled Freelance AI Engineer to work closely with our data team and drive AI-powered innovations in the financial sector. Based in Brussels, this 12-month contract involves collaborating with data scientists, analysts, and engineers to develop and deploy cutting-edge AI models for fraud detection, risk assessment, and automated financial decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the data team (data scientists, data analysts, and data engineers) to build and deploy AI-driven financial solutions.
• Design, develop, and implement machine learning and deep learning models for risk management, fraud detection, algorithmic trading, and credit scoring.
• Optimize AI models for real-time financial applications while ensuring scalability and efficiency.
• Work with big data platforms to process large-scale structured and unstructured financial datasets.
• Develop and maintain end-to-end AI pipelines, including data ingestion, model training, and deployment.
• Deploy AI models using MLOps best practices (CI/CD, model monitoring, and retraining).
• Ensure AI solutions comply with financial regulations (Basel III, IFRS, MiFID II).
• Work with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) for scalable AI deployment.
• Research and implement state-of-the-art AI techniques to improve financial analytics and decision-making.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

• Strong proficiency in Python or C++ for AI/ML development.
• Experience with machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).
• Hands-on experience in AI model deployment using Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases for working with financial data.
• Familiarity with big data processing technologies (Apache Spark, Hadoop) is a plus.
• Experience in cloud computing (AWS SageMaker, Google Vertex AI, Azure ML).
• Solid understanding of MLOps tools (MLflow, Kubeflow, Airflow).

Soft Skills

• Strong problem-solving and analytical mindset.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with data scientists, analysts, and engineers.
• Excellent communication skills to explain AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Detail-oriented, with a focus on model accuracy and ethical AI considerations.

Preferred Experience

• Prior experience in the financial sector (banking, fintech, insurance).
• Knowledge of financial regulations (Basel III, IFRS, MiFID II) as they relate to AI.
• Experience with high-frequency trading (HFT), robo-advisors, or automated financial systems is a plus.
