We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Assistant Chief Design Engineer - Reactor Plant and Systems to be involved in a game changing role as we strive to make the nuclear industry more diverse.
The Assistant Chief Design Engineer (ACDE) is responsible for the coordination and integration of the Reactor Plant and Systems engineering scope to ensure overall engineering delivery. The candidate will work closely with the Programme Function to integrate engineering activities with the master schedule and to support the engineering teams in managing and prioritising delivery scope.
The role covers the senior technical and programme leadership of a large department of design engineers, as well as the management of significant design contracts in the supply chain. This includes: the development and management of the integrated engineering programme content, coordination and prioritisation of both engineering activities and resource, management of fixed price contracts in the supply chain, management of technical and programme risks, and the management of both engineering and programme change.
The candidate will be a proven engineering leader with strong domain knowledge of Reactor Plant Design Programmes as well as a broad understanding of other nuclear design functions. The candidate shall also have a proven delivery record of complex design development programmes.
The Assistant Chief Design Engineer - Reactor Plant and Systems is a senior leadership figure within Engineering. It requires domain knowledge and expertise, excellent leadership skills, the ability to inspire and motivate others, and the ability to influence business and strategic direction. They will use their experience and abilities to steer and influence at all levels, displaying a positive and collaborative leadership style, to ensure successful department management.
Key role objectives:
- Act as part of the integrated Reactor Plant and Systems Leadership team, supporting the Chief Design Engineer in the effective leadership, management and coordination of the department.
- Lead the development of the integrated engineering plan for Reactor Plant and Systems design development scope. Provide support to Design Managers to ensure a fully integrated and working plan that meets project goals and constraints.
- Work closely with the CDE, Heads of Departments and Design Managers to lead the prioritisation of engineering activities/resource across all project demands.
- Lead the coordination, planning and management of work streams across departments/disciplines to solve complex engineering problems.
- Coordinate the sourcing and management of resource allocation across the department.
- Proactively coordinate the management of resource and fixed price work packages in the supply chain to support the achievement of overall engineering goals and project/budget constraints.
- Coordinate and manage engineering change and associated project impacts.
- Liaise and coordinate the integrated input from Reactor Plant and Systems into the GDA.
- Coordinate and manage the delivery of RQ/RO responses assigned to Reactor Island Plant and Systems.
- Coordinate and manage Reactor Island Risks and Opportunities for the department, including actioning associated actions and mitigation plans.
- Act as delegated authority for the chief design engineer; with explicit focus on delegated responsibility to take key programme decisions, chair programme/risk reviews and report to internal/external programme reviews.
Pay and benefits:
We anticipate paying a salary of between £68,000 - £89,000 DOE plus:
- Bonus - Performance related target opportunity 17%
- Benefits Allowance - £5,000 per annum, enabling you to create a bespoke package
- Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
