Grade 7 starting at £38,249 to £45,413 per annum, pro rata if part time.

About the role

We welcome applications for a fixed-term, part time (0.5FTE for one year) Assistant Professor in Human Geography (Education and Scholarship) to join our collegial and supportive team.

The successful candidate will join a friendly and supportive department with a significant record of world-leading research across the discipline. In the recent REF2021, Geography at Sussex was ranked 3rd in the UK for the impact of our research.

In this role, you will be working as part of the dynamic team of scholars in the Department of Geography associated with Histories, Cultures and Networks research cluster.

Under the direction of the Head of Department, the successful candidate will be responsible for teaching the following modules: Social Geographies (second year core module); Southeast England Field Class (second year core module). They will also be responsible for a small group of first-year Academic Advisees and other small teaching and administration contributions as directed by the Head of Department.

About you

Ideally, you will have a PhD in Human Geography or closely related field or be very near completing one.

Your research and teaching interests should align with those of the Department.

You will ideally have previous experience of teaching Human Geography at degree level and will be passionate about delivering high-quality teaching and support to students.

You will be a collegiate individual with an enthusiasm to participate fully as an active and integral member of the Department.

The School of Global Studies was established in 2009 and is one of the UK's leading centres of excellence for teaching, research and debate on the global challenges of our times.
