What you'll do
Attorney, Aviation
We are looking for an exceptional attorney who is experienced in drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts and providing day-to-day business and legal advice to support our legal department at Viasat's London offices.
The day-to-day
In this role, you will support our Aviation Business Unit, which consists of our commercial aviation business unit, business aviation unit, and safety of flight business unit. You will work autonomously to represent Viasat in all aspects of negotiating sophisticated commercial agreements with airline and business customers as well as our suppliers. You will be expected to draw on your legal and business experience to support Viasat in its approach to commercial and contractual matters, and to mitigate risk. This position will also coordinate and work closely with other subject matter experts of the company's legal team to support the company's Aviation Business Unit, including our compliance experts, regulatory experts, and privacy and data experts. Additionally, you will interface and collaborate with business partners across all levels of our Aviation Business Unit and provide support for a broad range of business matters. You should have the ability to strategically influence senior business stakeholders, as well as anticipate, define and solve critical issues to deliver improvements in Viasat's business and processes.
What you'll need
- UK or common law jurisdiction qualified lawyer
- 3 - 5 years PQE gained at leading law firms.
Other Qualifications and Experience
Extensive Experience in Contract Drafting and Negotiations and Industry Experience
- Must have excellent and demonstrated contract drafting and negotiating skills, preferably with respect to complex contracts that involve equipment sales and delivery of services that typically utilize SLAs.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: (1) aviation industry, (2) telecommunications industry, or (3) satellite industry.

- Must possess strong business acumen, with an ability to understand and analyze legal, operational, and business risks.
- Must possess strong analytical skills and judgment necessary to problem-solve and advise internal stakeholders on legal and business risks- and the written and verbal skills to effectively communicate the reasoning in recommending solutions.
- Solutions-oriented, with excellent problem-solving abilities and judgment.
- Provide creative and practical legal and business advice.
- Able to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the business, including the ability to reduce complex issues to simple communication.

- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective, professional and collaborative relationships among diverse stakeholders, both within the Aviation Business Unit and across the company, at all levels.
- Must possess the ability to balance the interests of the business and protecting Viasat from unnecessary risks.

- Excellent interpersonal and listening skills, with ability to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously, overcome challenges and defuse conflict.
