We have an exciting opportunity for an Anaesthetic Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner to join our team on a permanent basis.

We are currently offering a Band 5 to Band 6 progression pathway, subject to the fulfilling of necessary criteria.

Main duties of the job

If you are a newly qualified or experienced Anaesthetic Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner specialising in anaesthetics, we are offering 1 full time (37.5 hours per week) band 5 position of Anaesthetic Nurse / Operating Department Practitioner Anaesthetic within our busy suites.

You will need to deliver a holistic care approach that is current, evidence based and effective. You must have a broad knowledge and skill base including communication and team working skills, in order that you contribute to the smooth running of the theatre department.

To apply for this post, you must hold the appropriate qualifications to be a current registered anaesthetic practitioner RGN/ODP and demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the routine daily planning and organisation of the theatres/allocated anaesthetic area, for clinical procedures and practice, across a range of surgical specialities.
  • Delivering high quality anaesthetic care in isolated areas such as Maternity and functioning as an essential member of the cardiac arrest team.
  • Participate in the department's administration as required.
  • Opportunity to rotate between areas may be available.

Who we are looking for:

  • Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council or Health and Care Professions Council for ODPs, is essential.
  • An RGN/RN with a UK recognised anaesthetic nursing qualification or Operating Department Practitioner qualification is essential.
  • Recent experience of working within theatres as an anaesthetic practitioner would be advantageous.
  • Delivering high quality, patient-focused care, that is current, evidence based and effective.
  • Be compassionate and able to demonstrate excellent patient care & leadership skills.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
Person specification Education/Qualifications
  • RGN/RN with anaesthetic course or Operating Dept Practitioner with Diploma/Degree in Operating Department Practice.
  • Proof of registration with NMC (nurses) or HCPC (ODPs).
  • Recent experience working within theatres as an anaesthetic practitioner.
Skills/Abilities
