Job overview

The post holder will work as a team member as part of the city wide Podiatry Service within Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Trust (BCHC). They will operate autonomously in the delivery of high quality foot care treating complex podiatric problems. They will deliver care as a lone worker in clinic and domiciliary settings.

They will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning for new referrals, ensuring that patient care pathways are followed, and that episodes of care are implemented wherever appropriate. The post holder will contribute to maintaining the independence and mobility of patients whilst promoting the benefits of foot health and foot care advice and self-care.

Main duties of the job
  • Carry out new patient assessments, formulating treatment plans, maximising one-off or short term episodes of care to improve and resolve foot pathologies prior to planned discharge. Autonomous assessment, diagnosis, treatment and discharge of patients.
  • Managing a caseload of domiciliary visits.
  • Carry out wound assessments and provide wound care management.
  • Carry out biomechanical assessments, develop treatment plans and provide interventions, seeking advice from and referring to colleagues with senior roles where appropriate.
  • Proactively promote the use of minor surgery to resolve problematic nail conditions, assessing, referring and providing nail surgery procedures, follow up care and advice.
  • Maintain clear, accurate and contemporaneous records of all interventions, in line with NHS Trust systems and professional policy. All electronic notes should be completed within 24hrs of patient appointments.
  • Take responsibility for updating own professional development through reflection, supervision, mandatory training, CPD, and PDR while maintaining own personal log for HCPC registration.
Person specification
  • HCPC registered
  • Experience of working in the NHS setting
  • Experience of performing Nail surgery in the NHS
  • Degree in Podiatry
  • 1 year experience working in NHS setting
