Breast Screening Clinical Nurse Specialist
Central & East London Breast Screening Service. Based at Saint Bartholomew's Hospital.
7.5 Hours per week every Wednesday 8:30am-5pm 12 Months Fixed Term.

This is an exciting time to be working at the Royal Free London Breast screening service with our expanding service delivery across North, Central and East London. Our breast screening population is currently 400,000 making us one of the biggest breast screening services in the UK.
We are looking for a band 7 Breast Screening Clinical Nurse Specialist to support the CELBSS Breast Screening Service at our Barts site. CELBSS offers screening in seven locations across London including Camden, Islington, City and Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, and Waltham Forest.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Be the key worker for breast screening patients who have been recalled for assessment, acting as their advocate whilst coordinating their care pathway from assessment through to discharge/diagnosis and referral for further treatment.
- Provide holistic care and support through counselling, educating, advising, and supporting emotional needs.
- Manage junior members of the breast care nursing team in the absence of the Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist.
- Coordinate health promotion both internally and externally.
- Have a leading role in service improvement and development.
The successful candidate is required to demonstrate the Trust values, the responsibilities of the job description, and person specification. You should have proven experience of working:
- In a clinical background, with experience and knowledge of treating Breast Cancer/breast disease and breast screening clients.
- A first level degree or working towards this.
- A specialist qualification in advanced breast care practice.
- Counselling skills training and experience.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- The ability to prioritize, work independently as well as within a team.

About UsAll applicants should have valid NMC registration; the post holder must be a qualified Clinical Nurse Specialist holding the Diploma (DCR) or Degree (BSc) in Nursing.
Excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to providing the best possible quality of care to patients attending assessment clinics is essential.

Job ResponsibilitiesCLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

- Act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Professional Conduct and Scope for Expanded Practices for Nurses, Midwives, and Health Visitors.
- Ensure accurate and comprehensive nursing records are maintained using appropriate written and electronic documentation.
- Undertake all nursing procedures in accordance with trust policies and ensure that these procedures and policies are understood and adhered to by all staff within own management responsibility.
- Provide a continuing supportive service within the breast screening units and facilitate optimum health care for those who have or fear they may have breast cancer.
- Manage a caseload within the defined client group, including liaison where appropriate with other agencies and the provision of specialist advice to those involved in delivering care to this group.
- Work alongside the Director of Screening, Consultant Radiologists, Consultant Surgeons, Histopathologists, Clinical Nurses Specialists, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide patient-focused care within the screening service.
- Identify patients' physical, social, and psychological needs that require referral to other agencies.
- Provide both verbal and written information on all aspects of breast disease and its treatments.
- Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust Values.
- Registered Nurse level 1.
