Main duties of the jobWe are pleased to recruit a Band 7 Charge Nurse in our ED. Our department sees 600 patients a day and is one of the busiest departments in London. We are looking for exceptional nurse leaders to join our journey from 'Good' to 'Outstanding'.
The role involves leading a team of 15 nurses and healthcare support workers, empowering them to provide outstanding care. The position incorporates operational management of the department, ensuring safety and quality at all times. We seek experienced ED nurses who understand the complexities of ED nursing and are willing to push boundaries for outstanding outcomes.
Job responsibilitiesClinical Leadership & Care of Patients:
- Lead allocated staff to promote and maintain high-quality care.
- Maintain an acceptable environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
- Attend essential training to retain clinical skills.
- Report any untoward incidents to the Matron.
- Complete relevant paperwork regarding incidents.
- Ensure effective communication in the interests of patient care.
- Manage medication and controlled drugs safely.
- Work within Trust/Unit policies for professional and patient safety.
- Undertake advanced practical skills following recognized training.
- Attend team meetings regularly and provide feedback.
- Assess care needs and develop care programs with junior staff.
- Demonstrate knowledge to act in emergencies.
- Monitor hand hygiene and environmental cleanliness.
- Implement infection control principles.
- Manage a team of nurses and HCSWs.
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Post-nursing qualification in a relevant specialty.
- Educated to degree level.
- A&E Course.
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
- ANTC or equivalent.
- Teaching and development skills.
- Ability to lead teams effectively.
- Initiative and independent working capabilities.
- Excellent computer and communication skills.
- Experience in health roster management.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety Act principles.
- Understanding of Data Protection, Equalities Act, and Safeguarding.
- Interviewing and Root Cause Analysis skills.
- Experience with DATIX and investigations.
- Significant leadership experience, preferably in ED.
- Experience in implementing research into practice.
- ED nursing experience.
- Supporting junior staff.
- Ability to communicate without discrimination.
- Flexible approach to work.
- Ability to work in a pressurized environment.

Salary£51,883 to £58,544 a year inclusive of Outer HCAs per annum.
