Band 7 Speech & Language Therapist

North Middlesex University Hospital, one of London's busiest acute hospitals, are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join their devoted clinical team.

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join our dynamic community-based team. This role will provide an opportunity to deliver high-quality speech and language therapy services to patients and carers within a diverse and multicultural community, ensuring that patient-centred care pathways are developed, maintained, and tailored to the needs of our population.

As part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team, you will be a key resource for specialist advice within the community rehabilitation and therapy services and the wider Trust. You will establish strong communication and collaboration with external services and organisations to ensure the seamless delivery of care to patients referred to our service.

You will also play a key role in supporting relevant health promotion campaigns, contributing to the overall well-being of the community.

Key Responsibilities:

Comprehensive Assessment and Diagnosis:

Conduct detailed specialist assessments of patients with a range of complex physical and psychological conditions. Provide clinical diagnoses and develop individualised treatment programmes based on assessment findings.

Service Organisation:

Manage and organise your own caseload, ensuring the day-to-day delivery of high-quality SLT services to designated patients.

Patient and Carer Support:

Provide expert support and education to patients and carers in managing complex speech and language therapy needs, empowering them to take an active role in the rehabilitation process.

Collaboration with External Agencies:

Work closely with relevant agencies, such as specialist equipment services, social services, and voluntary or private organisations, to ensure integrated and coordinated care for patients.

Autonomous Practice:

Take full responsibility for the management of your own caseload, working independently while adhering to clinical guidelines and best practices.

Supervision and Support:

Engage in regular peer review, formal training, and case conferences. Seek support from senior clinicians when needed and support less experienced colleagues, assistants, Technical Instructors, and students on placement.

Evidence-Based Practice:

Lead evidence-based audits and projects to advance your clinical practice and that of your colleagues. Make recommendations to improve patient services based on audit findings.

Service Development:

Contribute to service improvement initiatives, offering input into the development of practice changes and service protocols under the guidance of the Manager.

Clinical Governance:

Maintain awareness of clinical governance standards within your role and report any concerns or issues to your line manager.

Health Promotion Contributions:

Actively contribute to health promotion initiatives within the service and across the wider Trust, supporting the delivery of key campaigns and improving patient outcomes.

Key Requirements:

• Relevant qualification in Speech and Language Therapy.
• Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Speech and Language Therapist.
• Extensive experience in delivering SLT services within a community setting, managing complex and diverse caseloads.
• Strong ability to work autonomously and manage a varied caseload effectively.
• Experience in working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies to ensure integrated patient care.
• Evidence of continuous professional development and engagement with evidence-based practice.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to educate and support patients and carers.
• Experience in supervising and supporting less experienced staff, students, and other team members.
• A commitment to contributing to service improvements and supporting health promotion activities.

Working Conditions:
This is a full-time role, with hours and arrangements to be discussed during the interview process. You will be based in the community setting, providing services to a diverse patient group.
