Posted 1 day 11 hours ago by BioAscent
Based: BioCity, Glasgow
£Competitive + attractive benefits and possible relocation allowance
Fixed-term and permanent contracts available
BioAscent is seeking motivated scientists who are passionate about advancing pre-clinical drug discovery. We welcome applications from recent graduates as well as professionals with several years of experience in industry or academic research. While not essential, we are particularly interested in candidates with a background in biophysical techniques such as Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), mass spectrometry or protein biochemistry, including protein production, purification, and characterisation.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will play a key role within our Biosciences department. Primary responsibilities include developing in vitro and complex cell-based assays to characterise novel drug compounds. The role also involves utilising software tools such as Excel, GraphPad Prism, and Dotmatics for comprehensive data analysis. In addition, the position requires the preparation of detailed reports using Microsoft Office applications, as well as supporting the ongoing maintenance of the laboratory by overseeing consumable replenishment, equipment upkeep, and adherence to quality control standards. This role also offers the opportunity to liaise with clients and actively contribute to the growth and development of the department and the wider company.
Essential Qualifications:
Candidates should hold a first or second degree (or equivalent) in biochemistry, pharmacology, or a related biological discipline. Practical laboratory experience in in vitro techniques is required, along with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. Strong interpersonal skills, effective communication, and the capacity to present scientific data clearly are essential. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate excellent problem-solving abilities, a methodical approach to work, and a commitment to ongoing professional development. Experience in data evaluation and proficiency with data capture and analysis software are also important.
Desirable Qualifications:
Applicants with experience in protein production, in vitro assay development, and a solid understanding of enzyme kinetics and molecular pharmacology, or previous project management or client facing experience, are highly desirable. Expertise in biophysical techniques such as SPR or mass spectrometry is also valued, as is familiarity with automated assay development and prior involvement in drug discovery projects.
At BioAscent, we pride ourselves on fostering a culture of openness, honesty, curiosity, conscientiousness, and teamwork. If you are an enthusiastic scientist with a commitment to advancing drug discovery and a desire to work in a dynamic, collaborative environment-while contributing to both client success and organisational growth-we encourage you to apply. BioAscent offers a supportive platform for career development where your expertise will be valued, and your contributions will help shape the future of medicine.
How to apply:
Please send your CV and covering letter via the 'Apply' link below. Closing date is 24th February with interviews planned for soon after, so we encourage you to apply early.
We offer fixed-term contract (FTC) opportunities with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate. If you're looking for a role with long-term prospects, we'd love to hear from you. Please provide confirmation of your eligibility to work in the UK as this role does not extend sponsorship.
