Job Description

The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.

We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.

These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won't be solved by science alone.

We're looking for an experienced strategic brand professional to join the team.

Where in Wellcome will I be working?

You will be leading strategic brand projects within the Brand team, part of the Corporate Affairs department, reporting to the Head of Brand.

As part of the recently restructured Brand team, you will play a critical role, alongside our other Brand Marketing Lead, to establish the small Brand Marketing team as a strategic brand hub. Here you'll be working alongside a talented group of individuals in the wider team to grow our brand among internal and external audiences.

What will I be doing?

As a core guardian of the brand, you will grow Wellcome's influence and build greater global recognition and trust. You'll do this through leading strategic brand projects and offering brand advice to colleagues across Wellcome. More specifically, you will:

  1. Work to embed our brand vision, mission, beliefs and values both internally and externally, and make sure our positioning maintains ongoing relevance in a complex external market.
  2. Contribute to the development of our brand strategy, considering and developing things such as our brand building journey, audience segmentation, brand hierarchy or employer brand.
  3. Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the organisation and provide brand and marketing expertise to influence their approach.
  4. Inspire and engage colleagues at all levels with our brand to ensure they understand how it can contribute to Wellcome's strategy. Advice, training, partnerships, resources - how you do it is up to you.
  5. Play your part in establishing a respected, flexible team, prepared to undertake other work that may be reasonably required from time to time.
  6. Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments and adhering to our policies, beliefs and values at all times.

Is this job for me?

If you're an experienced brand professional that can create and implement brand strategies as well as inspire others to embrace all things brand, then the answer is yes. This is a unique opportunity to make a real difference by developing a global brand that's dedicated to helping build a healthier future for everyone. More specifically, we are looking for someone who is:

  1. A strategic thinker with experience creating, implementing and managing brands (in a cause-led or non-profit environment would be a bonus), leading brand building activity across multiple channels. This includes analysing data and drawing on relevant insights to track performance, set KPIs and enhance brand plans.
  2. Experienced in presenting to, influencing and building relationships with colleagues at all levels, with a particular ability to inspire those that may be sceptical about the relevance of brand.
  3. Able to give brand and marketing advice and support to others on how to maximise the impact and brand value of their projects and plans.
  4. Familiar with commissioning and working with a wide range of external suppliers and partners, including those who deliver marketing campaigns as well as qualitative and quantitative research. You'll also be comfortable negotiating with them to get value for money, setting realistic budgets and tracking them effectively.

To apply please upload your current CV and complete our short application.

Interview dates: Wednesday, 26 and Thursday, 27 February 2025
