BackgroundThe Broadcast and Media Systems Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing a cutting-edge media production facility and leading a team dedicated to enhancing student learning. This role requires exceptional people management skills, technical expertise, and a collaborative approach to work effectively with academic colleagues and IT. The position supports the department of Journalism and the department of Media, Culture and Creative Industries.
ResponsibilitiesThe post holder will lead and manage a growing team that provides instruction to students on various media production tasks, offering guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to staff. You will foster a collaborative and innovative work environment. In addition, you will oversee the operation and maintenance of media production facilities, ensuring all equipment is well maintained and up to date including: TV studio, three radio studios, three podcasting booths and green screen rooms.
The successful applicant will oversee student support, and ensure comprehensive learning support is available for the operation of studio spaces, providing technical demonstrations on media software and the use of technical equipment such as cameras and portable microphones. You will collaborate with academic colleagues to align support with curriculum objectives.
Person SpecificationYou will be educated to a degree/postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience, have a proven ability to work confidently in a studio environment and support the production process with both technical and operational expertise.
Proficiency in operating studio equipment, including cameras, microphones, cables, sound desks, lighting rigs, and autocues is required along with a strong understanding of workflow and communication dynamics in TV and radio studios, to liaise with students, technical staff and lecturers.
Additionally, you will have effective communication skills to convey information and instructions clearly to team members, students, and academic colleagues.
