The Opportunity:
Laing O'Rourke is seeking a Building Safety Manager to support the maintenance and implementation of the Building Safety Management System and the business's Principal Dutyholder capability for Building Regulations (and CDM).
This is a key role, requiring knowledge on building safety processes and building regulations, plus a working knowledge of regulations related to higher-risk buildings. It requires an individual that acts as the conscience of the business. The role exists to assist in setting and shaping the Quality and Build Safety culture.
What will the role look like?- Supporting the development, maintenance and implementation of the Laing O'Rourke Building Safety Management System which includes procedures, processes, guidance and templates. Capitalise on lessons learned and learning from experience. Regularly update and refine documentation to reflect best practices and regulatory changes.
- Supporting the development and maintenance of the business's Principal Dutyholder capability for building regulations (and CDM), ensuring projects are supported in navigating these requirements through the project lifecycle.
- Acting as a key contact for principal dutyholder designated individuals ensuring functional support is provided and appointments are current.
- Coordinating with consultants on principal dutyholder advisory services. This involves working closely with design consultants to provide expert advice on principal dutyholder responsibilities, ensuring that all parties are aware of their duties and required deliverables, and that compliance is maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaborating with discipline leads to ensure the competence requirements associated with the Building Safety Act and associated secondary legislation, and Building Regulations are embedded into the relevant career tool kits and role profiles for individuals.
- Supporting the development and delivery of training programs related to building regulations and building safety. Evaluate the effectiveness of training initiatives and make improvements as needed.
- Monitoring and track changes in the regulatory landscape, communicating implications and necessary mitigations to the business.
- Supporting design teams in ensuring compliance with UK Building Regulations and secondary legislation to the Building Safety Act, and all relevant guidance.
- Approx 10 years' experience. Deep and broad experience of managing design, and construction projects.
- Exceptional communication skills, capable of guiding teams through complex regulatory frameworks and ensuring clear understanding across all project stages.
- Strong collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external consultants and stakeholders.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives.
- Technical and Quality opportunity and risk management.
- Highly skilled and able to demonstrate an ability to prioritise and deliver in a complex and fast paced environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
- Chartered (or working towards) Professional Membership with RIBA, CABE, RICS or equivalent.
