Job overview

University Hospitals Dorset, Royal Bournemouth Hospital is looking to recruit a Clinical Fellow ST3+ to work in the Emergency Department. This is an exciting opportunity for a doctor working at the level of a registrar/middle grade to gain experience in a very busy Emergency Department.

The post holder will join the Emergency Department team using a self-rostering system which includes day, evening, weekend and night shifts.

Main duties of the job

The Registrar Doctor Rota will include an additional Educational Development Time (EDT) every week.

EDT can be used for clinical duties (for example obtaining WPBAs or ELSEs) or non-clinical activities (such as ultrasound, teaching, audit, QIP).

The post holder will have an Educational Supervisor and be provided with career advice as well as a good study leave budget.

There is formal Senior teaching for 6 hours every 6 weeks which includes simulation sessions, lectures, RCEM guideline updates, and a journal club. As Simulation Fellow, you would be encouraged to help shape these educational days and prepare simulation for your fellow registrars.

In Bournemouth Hospital Emergency Department, there are 15 ED Consultants, Registrars and Middle Grades, and SHO grade Drs.

Person specification Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree
  • ALS/ACLS, ATLS/ETC, APLS/EPLS
  • MRCEM/FRCEM or equivalent
  • Level 1 USS
Experience
  • At least 4 years post-graduate training, in training posts or posts with equivalent training and consultant supervision
  • Minimum of 2 years working in Emergency Medicine
  • Minimum of 4 months in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine
  • Minimum of 4 months of working in Paediatrics
  • Can demonstrate successful completion of foundation competencies or equivalent
  • Experience of managing an Emergency Department as the Emergency Physician in Charge
  • Ability to organise workload and prioritise
  • Minimum of 4 months of working in Acute Medicine or equivalent
  • Experience of Minor Injuries/T&O
  • Evidence of involvement in audit & research projects
  • Experience at Registrar level or equivalent in the UK health system
