Job Description

An exciting opportunity to cover maternity leave has arisen for Clinical Nurse Specialist for Children Looked After to join our highly respected, friendly motivated team on a fixed term basis for nine months. The maternity cover is required for 12 months, with a start from March 2025.

Our well established CLA service has a good partnership with the Local Authority.

Main duties of the job
  • To work jointly with the wider CLA team to maintain a co-ordinated, multi-agency approach to the improvement of outcomes for Wandsworth's children and young people in care - ensuring services are delivered in a sensitive and age appropriate way that recognises the importance of choice and diversity.
  • Conduct statutory health assessments and ensure that health needs of Children Looked After and Young People are properly assessed, including risk assessments for children with complex health problems based on an in-depth knowledge of this area of expertise. Ensure that appropriate evidence based health care interventions are implemented and monitored.
  • To instigate and facilitate operational developments in services for Children Looked After and Young People.
  • Enhance professional standards of care in this area, to promote practice and service developments within the framework of clinical governance, ensuring that evidence-based research findings are incorporated appropriately in the service.
  • The post holder will have the key role in the coordination and communication of any activity, including education, relating to the health of Children Looked After and Young People.
  • They will be expected to identify training needs alongside the Named Nurse, design, deliver and evaluate training within the organisations.

Person Specification Qualifications & Training
  • oRSCN/RN/RM with 4/5 years post registration experience
  • oDegree educated
  • oFurther professional development associated with children and young people.
Experience
  • oExperience as a Health Visitor /School Nurse or children's community nurse
  • oSound clinical knowledge underpinned by evidence of theoretical understanding.
  • oEvidence of contributing to audit, policy development and implementation within a service.
  • oAbility to communicate effectively with other disciplines, agencies and client group.
  • oCLA experience
  • Ability to motivate others and negotiate successful outcomes.
Skills
  • oInnovative approach to improving client experience and service improvement
  • oConfidence and skill in escalating concerns internally and to partner organisations
  • oAbility to manage complex situations effectively and deal with sensitive and diverse issues.
  • oAbility to support and develop other practitioners in meeting the CLA health agenda across SGUH and other agencies
  • oEvidence of ability to communicate across organisational boundaries
  • oExcellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • oBasic IT skills, email, word Presentation skills.
  • oAbility to prioritise, work flexibly and to tight deadlines.

Knowledge
  • oAdvanced knowledge of relevant legislation and agendas relating to Children and Children in Care.
  • oKnowledge of national and local Safeguarding policies, guidelines and recommendations.
  • oEvidence of understanding of patterns of abuse and neglect.
  • oHigh level of knowledge of child development (0-18 years), Healthy Child program (0-19) and to level 3 of the Intercollegiate Role Framework 2015.
  • Understanding of the health promotion/protection agenda with particular reference to Children Looked After
