Job overview

The Merton Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) service provides out-patient assessment, intervention, and consultation services to children experiencing a range of mental health and neurodevelopmental difficulties.

Main duties of the job

This role is for a clinical nurse specialist with CAMHS experience, excellent communication and assessment skills, and an interest in Neurodevelopmental disorders. The successful candidate will work 3 days in Merton SPA triaging and assessing new referrals and 2 days in Tier 3 supporting the ADHD pathway.

This role is open to qualified nurses with the following:

  • Nurse registered with NMC with relevant B6 and/or B7 experience.
  • Experience of working with children and young people.
  • Experience of work within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • The ability to relate and provide accessible services to a diverse community.
  • The ability to efficiently manage a caseload.
  • Knowledge and skills in risk management and safeguarding.
  • Ideally a special interest in child neurodevelopment and neurodiversity.
  • Good IT and computer recording skills.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical

  • Provide specialist assessments of young children and their parents/carers.
  • Formulate and implement plans for evidence-based interventions.
  • Exercise professional responsibility for assessment, treatment, and discharge of clients.
  • Provide specialist mental health advice and consultation to other professionals.
  • Undertake risk assessment and risk management.

Teaching, Training, and Supervision

  • Receive regular clinical professional supervision.
  • Develop skills in professional post-graduate teaching, training, and supervision.

Management, Recruitment, Policy and Service Development

  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of the service's operational policies.

Person specification

Training & Qualifications
  • Qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist registered with the HCPC.
  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology.
Experience
  • Demonstrable experience of working with children and young people in a variety of mental health settings.
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary team working.
  • Experience of safeguarding and Child Protection.
