Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic multidisciplinary team of clinical researchers conducting innovative clinical trials in neurology and general internal medicine. The successful candidate will play a key role as an investigator in drug development and clinical trials, ensuring the highest safety standards for participants while adhering to ethical and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities include assessing suitability and obtaining consent for research, conducting comprehensive medical assessments, including neurological and physical examinations, and contributing to data collection. Based primarily at the LWENC site, the post holder will also support trials at the Bloomsbury campus in infectious diseases and cardiology.

This role offers excellent experience for those pursuing specialty applications in neurology or medical specialties. The post holder will gain hands-on exposure to clinical trials, interact with leading experts at Queen Square, and participate in NHS specialty clinics and prestigious teaching opportunities like the Gower's Round at NHNN.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated professional to join our clinical research team, contributing to groundbreaking clinical trials in neurology and related fields. The successful candidate will ensure strict adherence to trial protocols and regulatory standards, conduct thorough medical assessments, and maintain accurate research records. They will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, provide medical oversight during trials, and manage patient care in compliance with ethical and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.

Key responsibilities include performing clinical procedures including lumbar puncture and intrathecal dosing of experimental medications. Daily duties include evaluating trial data, managing adverse events, and ensuring informed patient consent. The post holder will engage with primary care GPs, sponsors, and research teams to ensure effective communication.

The post holder will respond to urgent medical queries and clinical emergencies in line with ALS RESUS council guidelines and will facilitate regular emergency scenario readiness testing.

Person specification Knowledge and Qualifications
  • Medical qualification MBBS with full valid registration at GMC
  • Valid Resus Council Advanced Life Support (ALS) training certification
  • Completed core medical training or equivalent
  • Completed and passed MRCP exam
  • GCP trained by start date
Experience
  • Minimum of 1 year post GMC registration experience with outpatient experience
  • Experience of working with patients with cognitive disorders and neurodegenerative diseases
  • Demonstrable evidence of undertaking capacity assessments in line with MCA 2005
  • Familiarity with principles of clinical research including Good Clinical Practice
  • Independent competence in lumbar puncture
  • Experience of phlebotomy, cannulation
  • Experience in the conduct of clinical research

  • This post covers basic salary only; however there will be a requirement to provide out-of-hours cover for the CRF when patients stay after 5pm. This will attract further payment.
