We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Nurse to participate in clinical and research activities within the Acute Multidisciplinary Imaging and Interventional Centre (AMIIC) based within the John Radcliffe hospital. The internationally unique centre includes a hybrid unit combining a state-of-the-art world's first clinical photon-counting Siemens computed tomography (CT) scanner integrated with a Siemens ARTIS Icono Biplane interventional suite.
The successful candidate will join our nursing team in AMIIC and work closely with other members of the unit including radiographers, physiologists, HCAs, ODAs, clinicians, and researchers.
Main Duties of the JobThe role requires the nurse to work in the interventional suite and recovery area for our interventional lists which include cardiology, neuroradiology, radiology, and neurosurgical cases, as well as providing nursing support to any CT lists. There will also be the opportunity to take part in a growing number of research projects that use the AMIIC facilities.
The successful candidate, whilst being an employee of the University of Oxford, will also be involved in the provision of a highly patient-oriented clinical service for the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We require someone who will enjoy working in a friendly, cutting-edge environment as part of a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, radiographers, nurses, and physiologists spanning both University of Oxford and NHS departments. A flexible approach to weekend and evening work will be required.
Job Responsibilities- Act in accordance with the NMC Code, ensuring high standards of individualized patient care and accurate documentation.
- Participate in clinical research activities performed in the catheterization laboratory or other research areas of the centre.
- Ensure that clinical areas are set up for use and relevant safety checks are completed daily.
- Participate in interventional procedures (after training), including roles of scrub nurse and recovery/day case nurse.
- Monitor stock levels of pharmacy items and consumables.
- Ensure compliance with OUH Trust policies regarding controlled drugs.
- Promote good communication styles and systems across the multi-disciplinary team.
- Ensure compliance with OUH Trust clinical policies and procedures.
- Update clinical knowledge and skills in conjunction with an annual appraisal.
- Undertake mandatory training as required.
- Participate in public engagement activities on behalf of Investigative Medicine.
- Adult nursing qualification and full registration with the NMC.
- Good working knowledge of managing the post-operative and/or deteriorating patient.
- Experience in surgical nursing at NHS band 5 position.
- Ability to form good working relationships within the multi-disciplinary team.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
- Ability to solve problems, and plan and manage workload.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Good organisational skills.
- Willingness to undertake all aspects of the role, including research and clinical activity within intervention and CT.
- Evidence of relevant post-qualification training/course (e.g., recovery/HDU nursing).
- Airway and sedation trained.
- Experience of working in an interventional or cath lab, or similar environment.
