Job Description
Clinical Secretary in Gastroenterology & Liver

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Gastroenterology Team at Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli. Applications are invited from efficient and suitably qualified individuals for the post of a part-time Band 3 Clinical Secretary on a permanent basis.

Main duties of the job

Working 30 hours per week, the successful candidate will be required to support the delivery of a comprehensive and quality secretarial service to the Consultants and their teams.

You will undertake a wide range of duties including receipt and distribution of mail, audio transcription, and the typing of highly sensitive letters and reports, maintaining confidentiality at all times, in addition to operation of the Health Board's patient database system. You will be expected to demonstrate excellent organisation skills and be flexible and adaptable in your approach to work. You must be able to work on your initiative, use tact and diplomacy where appropriate and possess excellent communication skills.

Experience of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and E-Mail, coupled with proven secretarial skills (including audio typing skills) and previous experience of medical terminology is essential.

Person Specification Qualifications and Knowledge
  • Level 3, or equivalent level of competency in Word Processing and Audio Transcription
  • Knowledge of a range of secretarial procedures
  • Knowledge of Software programmes - e.g. Microsoft packages, e-mail, Internet and databases
  • 5 GCSEs or equivalent
  • Proof of appropriate Continuous Professional Development
Experience
  • Previous secretarial and/or administration experience
  • Health Service experience - familiar with the use of medical terms
Circumstances
  • Good organisation skills
  • Flexible approach to needs of the service
  • Wants to develop and progress within the Health Board
Language Skills
  • Welsh Speaker (Level 1)
