To be considered for this role, you should:
- Be GMC registered with a licence to practise.
- Be Specialist Registered in Anaesthesia or within 6 months of completing your training.
- Possess extensive experience and training in Anaesthesia and Critical Care to Consultant level.

Main duties of the jobThe role offers a weekly commitment of 10 PAs (8.5 DCC + 1.5 SPA), with the potential for additional PAs to be negotiated. The predictable and unpredictable DCC work for this post is annualised and will include a mix of fixed (at least one day per week) and flexible clinical sessions (ranging from 4-8 sessions for Theatre/Obstetrics) to meet an agreed annual total. You will also participate in the General/Obstetric Consultant on-call rota.
Your weekly schedule will be finalised four weeks in advance, with a designated non-clinical day. The remaining time will be allocated for administrative duties, ongoing development of Anaesthetic services, attending departmental meetings, teaching, audit, and mandatory training.
A typical week will include a fixed day alongside a variety of surgical specialty sessions such as ENT, Upper GI, Maxillo-Facial Surgery, Colorectal, or Gynaecology. There may also be opportunities to cover Trauma or Emergency Anaesthesia.
The Inpatient Trauma Service is centrally based at Peterborough City Hospital, serving patients from both Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke Hospitals. To accommodate additional trauma cases, weekend trauma lists are held on Saturdays, Sundays, and Bank Holidays, all of which are incorporated into your job plan.

Person Specification Education & Qualifications- Inclusion on the Specialist Register for Anaesthesia or within 6 months of completion of training
- 6 months advanced obstetric training to RCoA standards or equivalent
- A wide experience and training in Anaesthesia and Critical Care to Consultant level.
- Experience of teaching Foundation Year and Specialty Trainees to standards required by the RCoA
- Understand the research process.
- Understanding of evidence based medicine
- Understanding of NHS management structure and recent changes, plus the responsibilities of an NHS Consultant.
- Understanding of audit process
- Use of wide range of IT functions
- Understanding developments in, and the process of medical education
