Job overviewThe Directorate of Respiratory Medicine at WTWA (Wythenshawe, Trafford, Withington & Altrincham) is part of the Respiratory Division (along with the Lung Cancer Directorate). The Directorate provides community-based and secondary care for respiratory patients in the local area, hosting 16 tertiary or national respiratory subspecialty services. We provide an on-call service and inpatient care for Respiratory Medicine patients, with 20 clinicians contributing to the on-call rota. There is no requirement to provide secondary care services for general medicine.
The Directorate is made up of several small inclusive subspecialty teams, comprising a diverse mix of clinicians and allied health professionals. These teams work collaboratively to provide general respiratory care, with varying interests among the Respiratory medical staff, including purely clinical roles, leadership, innovation, and academia. This offers new consultants an array of choices and post CCT training opportunities in a nurturing environment.
Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate will:
- Contribute to the general respiratory ward cover and participate in the 1 in 20 on-call for Respiratory Medicine.
- Provide a high-quality service with responsibility for the diagnosis and treatment of patients referred to the specialty in inpatient and outpatient settings.
- In conjunction with consultant colleagues, develop clinical leadership and contribute to the vision and values of the service.
- Supervise and manage junior medical staff and allied health professionals.
- Participate in clinical governance processes and continuing professional development.
- Contribute to ongoing strategic redesign.
- Complete mandatory training and undertake annual appraisal.
These duties may evolve annually according to the development of Respiratory Services, and you will be expected to embrace changes for continuous improvement in patient care.
