The post holder will primarily be in the role of assessing new patients who have been referred for specialist neurorehabilitation under The Wolfson Neurorehabilitation Service. The post will include providing neuropsychiatric input to the multidisciplinary teams at the Wolfson. The postholder will have outpatient follow up clinics which are usually carried out remotely by telephone or videocall.
The Queen Mary's Hospital inpatient caseload comprises of patients who are admitted for high intensity rehabilitation (level 1 or level 2), who have complex needs. Patients admitted for rehabilitation will usually comprise those with neurological symptoms secondary to acquired brain injury (ABI) (including stroke, inflammation, and trauma) and functional neurological disorder (FND).
Main duties of the jobThe ward is split into 3 teams: Green team (neuropsychiatry led): Level 1 patients presenting with ABI or FND, Yellow Team (neurology led): Level 1 patients presenting with ABI, Blue team (neurorehabilitation led): Level 2 patients presenting with ABI, spinal or peripheral neuropathies. Each team has a consultant lead and junior doctor; but a culture of flexibility and co-working is promoted.
The v.FND team is a fully digital multidisciplinary service providing treatment for FND. This usually has a caseload of 3-4 patients at any given time.
The post holder will have continuing responsibility for patients in their care on the ward. They will liaise with other relevant professionals within the multidisciplinary team and participate in planning the rehabilitation programme of patients. The post holder will take an active part in the activities of the department, case conferences, team meetings, and to represent the medical component of the team.

The Trust serves a resident population of about 300,000 and serves two local Primary Care Trusts, Wandsworth and Sutton & Merton which have a total population of approximately 600,000 between them.
