Job Description
Consultant Nuclear Medicine Physician or Radionuclide Radiologist University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Candidates are invited to apply for a full-time position working in our Nuclear Medicine department, for 40 hours per week. The post is composed of 6 Clinical PAs which are permanent, and 4 Research PAs which are initially for 3 years, renewable. Subject to academic performance, the research component of post is aimed to become permanent. However, the post will revert to a substantive 0.6fte upon termination of the research grant.
This is a consultant post to support and develop radionuclide and PET imaging and increase academic capacity.
The successful candidate will also be expected to be active in research and will help develop and support the academic research program at the Institute of Nuclear Medicine, UCLH as well as develop their own research ideas.
We are one of the biggest Nuclear Medicine departments in UK and Europe, providing a range of specialist procedures in PET, radionuclide therapy and general nuclear medicine. Our service is rapidly expanding and we are looking for a motivated individual who can work flexibly and provide leadership and specialist expertise to drive quality improvements, sustainability and innovation.

This is a consultant post to support and develop radionuclide imaging and PET service and to increase the academic capacity at the Institute of Nuclear Medicine, UCLH.
This successful candidate will also be expected to be active in research and will help support the academic research program in Nuclear Medicine as well as develop their own research ideas.
The successful candidate will join a cohesive team of Nuclear Medicine Physicians and Radiologists and help support the delivery of clinical Nuclear Medicine services within the Trust.
For UK trained doctors, it is expected that the candidate holds a CCT in Nuclear Medicine or a CCT in Radiology with subspecialty training in Radionuclide Imaging (or for either option be eligible to do so within six months of appointment).
Non-UK trained doctors must be on the GMC register and appropriate specialist register by date of interview.
It is desirable that the appointee is eligible to hold a full diagnostic ARSAC licence for Nuclear Medicine (including PET/CT).
The post holder should be able to support the philosophy and collaborative activity of UCLH.
The post holder's responsibilities will be based at the UCLH site.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to the reporting of Nuclear Medicine and PET-CT/PET-MR imaging and help expand the diagnostic component of theragnostic research, e.g., evaluate potential molecular targets for radioligand therapy, especially in lung, breast and colorectal cancer.
The appointee is expected to aid the existing Nuclear Medicine consultants team in the administration of the unit and the development of clinical protocols. She/he will also have the opportunity to participate in multidisciplinary meetings together with the other Radiology Consultants.
The post holder will be accountable to Dr Irfan Kayani, Clinical lead and Sam Read, Divisional Clinical Director for Imaging.
The post holder will work with other members of the consultant staff to support, provide and develop nuclear medicine services under the guidance of the Clinical Lead.
The post holder will provide cover for the other Nuclear Medicine Consultants for annual, study and sick leave in a reciprocal manner.
The appointee will be expected to support and lead research projects in line with the academic program of the department and will be accountable to Prof Ashley Groves, the Academic lead.
The post holder will be expected to participate in Continuing Medical Education to the level required by the Royal Colleges.
Mentoring will be provided by appointed colleague, clinical or divisional lead, if the post holder will deem necessary.

Main duties of the job
- To work closely with the senior professional workforce, radiographer and technologist colleagues, medical, physicist and nursing staff to ensure provision of an efficient and responsive Nuclear Medicine service including providing consultant supervision for diagnostic radionuclide imaging in all service areas.
- Report general nuclear medicine, bone densitometry and PET/CT, PET/MRI studies.
- Attend multidisciplinary oncological and non-oncological multidisciplinary meetings.
- Contribute to the audit and quality improvement projects in the department.
- The appointee will be expected to support and lead research projects in line with the academic program of the department.

Person Specification
- Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within 6 months of interview. If the applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of Completion of Training (CCT) in Nuclear Medicine or Radiology or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Non-UK trained doctors must be on the GMC register and appropriate specialist register by date of interview.
- MBBS or equivalent
- FRCR or equivalent or Postgraduate Diploma/MSc in Nuclear Medicine
- Doctorate or equivalent prior publication record
- Expertise and experience in all aspects of Radionuclide Imaging
- Experience in performing research projects and manuscript preparation for publication
- Expertise and experience in all aspects of Radiology
- Experience in presenting at MDT meetings
- Experience in teaching and training
- Up-to-date qualifications in clinical research ethics
- Willingness to continue to participate in research
- Track record in conducting clinical audits
- Track record in clinical research with demonstration of peer-reviewed publications in the last 2 years
- Knowledge of finance/budgets and/or management of staff
