UHBW are looking to recruit a consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in complex trauma and limb reconstruction. This is an exciting time to join the Limb Reconstruction team at UHBW as we look to expand the move operating to the elective Hub at Southmead hospital. You will be joining an existing team of 2 consultants supported by Plastic surgeons at Southmead. The Service offers tertiary referral services to the South West of England and further afield. It is recognised as a Centre of excellence.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be expected to undertake general and fracture/acute clinics, including a commitment to the Virtual Fracture Clinic. The successful applicant will have a component of their job plan dedicated to ward rounds and junior clinical supervision/on-ward teaching. In addition, the post-holder will have a commitment to general trauma lists, elective operating, and an on-call commitment as per the weekly team duties and 1 in 12 weekends with expected flexibility due to rota reorganisation. The job plan will be split 8.5 DCC and 1.5 SPA.

Person specification Qualifications & Training
  • Full GMC Registration.
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT or CESR (proposed CCT / CESR date must be within 12 months of interview);
  • Recognised surgical fellowship training programme in Limb Reconstruction and complex trauma
  • Higher academic qualification
Experience
  • Evidence of first class professional practice in adult trauma and orthopaedics with evidence of continued practice and skills in Limb Reconstruction and complex trauma
  • Recognised fellowship training programme in limb reconstruction and major trauma.
  • Demonstrable surgical experience in complex lower limb trauma, FRI, limb lengthening, deformity correction
  • Overseas experience within recognised limb reconstruction units
Clinical Knowledge and skills
  • Ability to practice fully and independently in the field of limb reconstruction
  • Ability to practice independently on the adult on-call trauma rota.
  • Additional upper/lower limb surgery training to complement the existing skills of the department.
  • Ability to make clinical decisions at Consultant level
  • Evidence of appropriate higher Trauma & Orthopaedic qualification (e.g. PhD, MD, MSc)
  • Experience with 3D printing in limb reconstruction
Clinical Governance and Audit
  • Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and evidence of participation
  • Positive approach to evidence based practice
  • Participation in continuing professional development (CPD) scheme and, where relevant, evidence of participation
Research
  • Knowledge of the principles involved in research
  • Evidence of involvement in research
