Consultant Pathologist
NHS Lanarkshire - University Hospital Monklands
NHS Lanarkshire is seeking to recruit additional hard-working and enthusiastic candidates to a substantive Consultant Pathologist post, joining the current team of 17 Consultants currently including 1 fixed-term Locum, based at the University Hospital Monklands site, to work within a fast-paced department striving for excellence. NHS Lanarkshire Pathology services are UKAS accredited to ISO15189:2022 medical laboratory standards and cover specimen reporting from University Hospitals Monklands, Wishaw and Hairmyres, in addition to receiving samples from the wider community. We manage specimens from all major specialties, non-gynaecological cytology and are one of two sites for the Scottish cervical cytology screening service. Autopsy services are not provided by our team.
If you are a Pathologist who is passionate about patient-centered care, has excellent communication skills and is committed to providing accurate, timely histopathology reporting, we would welcome your application. We are a dynamic group of young Consultants with a broad range of experience and a strong team ethos. The department has well-established training links and is popular with pathology residents from the West of Scotland training programme, who rotate 6-monthly to our Department. There is active participation by Consultants in research and development, and engagement with clinical trials.
We are seeking to expand our team to manage increasing workload and complexity. Successful candidates will have a wide general interest in Histopathology and may have specialist interests within a background of generalist reporting skills, as we are a part sub-specialised team. Specific job planning will be flexible, based on the interests of the successful candidate and current departmental needs. We use a Warwick workload score based system of allocation, allowing for equitable distribution and flexibility of work and have recently adopted a digitised workflow, with many of the Consultant team now reporting digitally via the Phillips Image Management system.
University Hospital Monklands is within easy commuting distance from central Scotland, with good transport links to Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The job is offered as a full-time post on a 10 PA basis with a breakdown being 8 Direct Clinical Care and 2 Supporting Professional Activity, subject to confirmation and approval of the final job plan. Applications will be considered from those wishing to work less than full-time.
The University of Glasgow enjoys close links with NHS Lanarkshire, and our medical students benefit greatly from the excellent educational opportunities provided by the board in both primary and secondary care. Those who are or who will be involved in teaching our students, or in any other activity which involves a contribution to teaching, research or scholarship within the University are eligible for honorary status at the University of Glasgow.
Honorary Status Role Holders are entitled to numerous benefits including a University of Glasgow ID card, use of the Library and other facilities, and a University IT account as required for their role. They have access to all courses run by the IT Services on the same basis as members of staff and are also permitted an educational discount when PC equipment is purchased through the IT Services.
