Our hybrid working means in this role you are required to be in the office 3 days per week with the option of working from a place of your choice 2 days per week.

The Corporate Strategy & Insight team is a central team with a remit across the whole business. Its role is to focus on the future, helping the company identify opportunities, risks, and challenges so that BT plc wins in the markets in which it operates. It provides thought leadership, market insight, and solutions to enable profitable revenue growth and shareholder return.

This role will focus on answering a wide range of big strategic questions to design the group's long-term strategy as well as assessing potential mergers and acquisitions strategies. You will be expected to develop innovative recommendations and solid business cases for decision and implementation to ensure BT continues to be a profitable, innovative, customer-focused organisation.

What you'll be doing

• Contributing to designing the group's strategy and articulating the key priorities for the group
• Taking ownership to resolve key strategic questions, including potential partnership and M&A opportunities, end-to-end at the workstream level. Key tasks include:

  1. Breaking down a key question and framing the approach to investigate it
  2. Identifying strategic options to resolve the issue
  3. Assessing the issue through in-depth quantitative and qualitative analyses
  4. Developing recommendations and associated investment/business cases

• Driving collaboration with relevant CFUs through the resolution of strategic questions, to ensure full ownership and appropriation from key stakeholders
• Identifying new opportunities for growth through external research, introducing best practices from our investors, peers, and competitors
• Developing new business cases across BT in collaboration with the CFUs to validate assumptions, while understanding where there will be tension and driving buy-in and collaboration with relevant CFUs
• Facilitating the resolution of strategic questions and ensuring engagement and ownership from key stakeholders at a working level
• Overseeing workstreams or project teams

You'll have the following skills & experience

• Extensive strategy experience either in a corporate strategy environment or a consulting firm
• Relevant industry experience (i.e., TMT) is preferred but not required; however, interest in the sector and a grasp of key trends is important
• A deep understanding and awareness of enterprise-wide dynamics and the complexities of a commercial business

• Strategic thinking
• Extensive understanding of the strategic problem solving approach, including hypothesis testing, building frameworks, and breaking down business drivers and profitability
• Comfortable with ambiguity and able to define and manage requirements effectively to deliver in a timely manner
• Insights and results-driven, with a questioning and fact-based mindset, able to frame and break down complex business problems across markets and segments
• Highly analytical with experience working with complex data sets and financial modelling

• Communication:
• Exemplary communication, influencing, and leadership skills, with the gravitas and impact to develop and enable strategic relationships that add significant commercial value to our business
• Ability to create inspiring messages, considering different perspectives and delivering simple communications
• Awareness of audience needs and ability to tailor your style accordingly
• Strong presentation skills, capable of articulating complex ideas with authority and making the case for change
• Ability to synthesise issues and get to the "so what?"

• People and project management:
• Ability to independently build successful collaborative relationships with working leads from different business units across the Group
• Strong team player with the ability to perform under pressure
• Ability to help create a high-performing culture through knowledge sharing and collaboration
• Experience managing teams and directing workstreams with strong project management skills
