Due to our continued growth in the private sector, we are seeking a cost manager. This role involves advising on cost planning, project budgeting, forecasting, and strategic procurement services. You will join our consultancy business, specifically within the commercial private sector, working across various sectors such as mixed-use developments, corporate real estate, retail, hospitality, and leisure.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Conducting feasibility studies and benchmarking.
  • Creating and monitoring budget investments.
  • Regularly updating commercial documents and reporting to client stakeholders.
  • Managing estimating and cost planning activities, including presenting the final cost plan.
  • Overseeing the procurement process, ensuring effective performance at all stages.
  • Managing post-contract cost variances and change control processes.
  • Ensuring effective cost checking and valuation work.
  • Producing and presenting monthly post-contract cost reports to clients.
  • Applying value management techniques at the project's outset.
  • Negotiating and agreeing on final accounts.
  • Identifying opportunities for cost management, value engineering, cost avoidance, and efficiencies.
  • Interfacing with clients, consultants, and key stakeholders at all project stages.
  • Working within a seconded client team and interfacing with project delivery teams.
  • Managing and building relationships with suppliers, monitoring and reporting their performance and compliance.
  • Supporting marketing and business development efforts, promoting Mace.
  • Assisting in developing new business opportunities with existing and new clients.

You'll need to have:

  • Strong leadership skills within client and delivery teams.
  • Experience in monitoring and reporting across several accounts.
  • Previous experience in a cost consultancy practice in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of contract administration, value engineering, and life cycle costing.
  • Ability to advise on capital planning, forecasting, and strategic procurement.
  • Understanding of industry best practices.
  • Experience in managing people and risk management.
  • Proficiency in Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and graphs.
  • Awareness of industry issues such as sustainability, social value, and carbon reduction.
