Role Overview
As a Data Engineer, you will be integral in transforming raw data into valuable datasets that support business decisions and improve operational knowledge. You will be responsible for building and maintaining data infrastructure, implementing data models, and ensuring the integrity and accuracy of data across various systems. Your work will contribute to achieving the industry's open data goals and enhance the company's data-driven insights.

You will collaborate closely with a variety of stakeholders, ensuring that data is processed, validated, and delivered in a way that drives business success.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Build, maintain and optimise cloud-based data infrastructure, databases and processing frameworks.
  2. Design and implement effective data models to manage large volumes of diverse data, including building and maintaining data warehouses and data lakes.
  3. Develop and maintain ETL pipelines to extract, transform and load data from various sources.
  4. Ensure the integrity and accuracy of data by establishing data quality standards and developing validation and cleansing processes.
  5. Collaborate with stakeholders to define data governance policies and implement data security measures to protect sensitive information and comply with privacy regulations.
  6. Work with data scientists, analysts and business stakeholders to understand and meet their data requirements.
  7. Optimise data pipelines, storage and retrieval processes to improve performance.
  8. Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in data engineering to enhance efficiency and innovation.

Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate will have:

  1. Strong knowledge of data warehousing and data modelling concepts.
  2. Experience with cloud data platforms such as AWS and/or Azure.
  3. Familiarity with data engineering tools and technologies related to these platforms (e.g. Azure Functions, ADF, Databricks, Kinesis, Kafka, Glue, Lambda, APIs).
  4. Proficiency in SQL and Python is highly desirable.
  5. Experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence is a plus.
  6. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders and suppliers.
  7. High attention to detail and the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  8. A proactive attitude with a drive for continuous improvement.
