About the job

We are looking for a passionate and skilled Data Science Team Lead and Project Manager to oversee a team of data scientists and lead impactful customer projects. These include both custom AI initiatives and Yanomaly-related implementations.

This role combines deep technical expertise in software and data science/ML with outstanding project and people management skills. You'll gain unique insights and a behind-the-scenes look into the operations of top-tier companies in industries like automotive, food & beverage, and discrete manufacturing.

Your responsibilities

You'll enjoy a lot of freedom and an exciting mix of interactions with technology, people and customers.

Your key responsibilities include:

Leading, mentoring, and inspiring a talented team of data scientists, ensuring their skills remain sharp and they thrive in a collaborative environment

Driving recruitment efforts for technical profiles alongside Yazzoom's managing directors

Acting as a sparring partner to data scientists, advising on data strategies, algorithms, and modeling techniques.

Defining project scopes and budgets as well as preparing compelling proposals

Collaborating with the sales team and Yazzoom leadership to assess project feasibility and requirements

Aligning with clients to define technical and business specifications

Delivering training to clients on Yanomaly and broader AI applications in industry

Managing diverse projects, from planning and stakeholder alignment to timely delivery and budget adherence

Your profile

We are looking for someone who ticks these boxes:

MSc or PhD in AI/ML, computer science, computer engineering, electronics, physics, bio-engineering or similar fields

Significant experience in data science projects and project management

Exceptional ability to juggle multiple projects and adapt to shifting priorities

Experience with industrial data is a major plus

Fluent in English or Dutch

Passionate about applying new technologies to solve real-world problems

A driver's license type B and the flexibility to occasionally travel to our customers in Belgium and internationally.

Where are we located?

The main location and base for this job is our office in Gent, Moutstraat 88 (optionally one day per week working from home) - about 10 minutes from the Sint-Pieters train station by bike, and a few minutes from the E40 and E17 motorways. Occasional travel to our customers is required: usually half or one day visits, and rarely several days in a row.
