Location: Wheaton Ashton
Salary: £40,500 per annum
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-time
Working Hours: 40 hours per week (including sleep-ins and on-call duties)

The Role

As a Deputy Children's Home Manager, you will play a vital role in supporting the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home, ensuring the highest standards of care, safety, and well-being for the young people in our care. This includes promoting a nurturing and structured environment that meets each child's individual needs and helps them to develop emotionally, socially, and educationally.

You will be a strong leader, capable of supervising and developing staff, maintaining regulatory compliance, and actively contributing to a positive team culture. The role will involve regular sleep-ins as part of the rota and may include on-call responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Registered Manager in the overall management and development of the home.
  • Ensure the home complies with Ofsted regulations and meets all required standards of care.
  • Lead shifts and provide supervision, guidance, and support to residential care workers.
  • Assist with staff recruitment, training, appraisals, and performance management.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with young people, promoting their rights and well-being.
  • Create and implement care plans, risk assessments, and behaviour management strategies.
  • Monitor and support the emotional, physical, and educational development of each child.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure timely reporting in line with policies and procedures.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and therapeutic environment for staff and residents alike.
  • Take part in the on-call rota and complete sleep-ins as required.

About You

Essential:

  • Minimum Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
  • At least 2 years' experience working in a residential childcare setting, with a minimum of 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and EBD.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team effectively.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins.
  • A clear enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check or willingness to undertake one.

Desirable:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or working towards).
  • Experience with Ofsted inspections and regulatory frameworks.
  • Full UK driving licence.
