The RoleWe are presently hiring for a Design Engineer on a contract until the end of 2025 to manage quality checks, design approvals, and overall assurance for outdoor small cell sites deployed on lamp columns and other street furniture. You will be responsible for selecting optimal assets, liaising with contractors, customers, and local authorities, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. This role is central to quality control and coordination throughout the project lifecycle, streamlining processes and mitigating risks to uphold high design standards across all site deployments.
- Conduct desktop reviews for new customer-provided locations, assessing site suitability and selecting the best assets based on project criteria, sharing results with customers.
- Provide design quality assurance by thoroughly reviewing and approving contractor-provided designs.
- Liaise with external contractors to coordinate site surveys, ensuring they have all required documentation and information (including RAMS and logistics).
- Act as the primary point of contact during surveys, addressing contractor queries and handling escalations.
- Post-survey, perform quality checks on contractor reports to confirm optimal asset selection, making corrective recommendations where necessary.
- Collaborate with the customer to finalise location agreements based on survey feedback and liaise with local councils for site approval.
- Manage the structural testing process with contractors once council approval is secured.
- Issue approved designs to customers and coordinate with contractors on planning notices (REG5).
- Contribute to the creation and refinement of design templates for new product introductions and contractor use.
- Conduct supplier review meetings to assess and monitor performance, driving improvements where necessary.
- Oversee the financial management of the design phase, including raising Purchase Orders (POs) and approving quotes.
- Carry out feasibility checks by obtaining quotes for unique scenarios and coordinating with the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) to confirm the feasibility of new power supply installations.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a technically oriented mindset.
- Ideally experienced in street furniture deployment, or highways electrical design.
- Familiarity with the telecoms/RF industry, specifically mobile network deployments in street settings.
- Knowledge of G39 highways electrical training desirable but not essential.
- Background in engineering or electrical disciplines is advantageous.
