Regeneration, Economy and Planning in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories, where little things can have a huge impact on people's lives.
The Role:As a Technical Design and Quality Manager, you can make your own powerful contribution to one of London's flagship housing development programmes. Your expertise and knowledge will be needed to ensure consistent design quality and sustainability standards across the portfolio. You'll be contributing to project risk management decisions, preparing the team for the latest technical changes and legislation, such as the Future Homes Standards and the Building Safety Act using your applied knowledge, working with project and client teams to ensure smooth transition of technical design and quality issues at completion.
Expect to be a key part of the quality feedback loop, facilitating the evaluations from the resident and client teams to shape the front-end design of the development pipeline on items such as renewable energy. Your key responsibilities will also include supporting the team on all technical and design issues, ensuring clear client standards and monitoring, and collaborating with project teams ensuring standardisation of requirements.
Advising on technical design aspects to achieve net zero homes and other building requirements, integrating a continuous review approach and liaising with external consultants and internal teams to anticipate future needs of homes will also be key parts of your role.
Be prepared to also deputise for the Director of Strategy and Director of Delivery and Operations within the Regeneration and Development Department on technical, design and quality issues as requested. In addition to that, you will also hold responsibilities as a part of the wider team. These include managing relationships with all stakeholders, setting high standards for yourself and others, leading and supporting staff, facilitating collaboration within the team, reviewing and reporting when required, and negotiating with supply chain partners.
You will need a strong proven track record of managing the design development process on residential developments, ensuring the design process complies with all current legislation, and inspecting design quality. A keen interest in assessing the usability of the homes with residents is important for this role. Demonstrating an ability to keep up to date with the latest changes and translating this into practical standards and guidance for the team is crucial.
Having a strong work ethic, a passion for delivering exceptional customer service, excellent communication skills and an ability to stay organized are all criteria that will keep you on top of this role. You should also be an expert on things like energy heating plans, with the ability to future proof these at post-occupancy and pre-construction stages.
Being able to demonstrate a credible track record of design development, new homes delivery and understanding of housing management is very important.
