Our client is an innovative biotechnology company based in Cambridgeshire. They facilitate the development and manufacture of new gene and cell-based therapies through a range of development and manufacturing services.
Owing to continued expansion, they are seeking a Director of Manufacturing to lead the manufacturing portion of the business.
The Opportunity
This is a senior opportunity for a highly experienced individual who has a proven record of leading biological or cellular manufacturing programmes and support of technology transfer activities. As a Director of Manufacturing, you will be responsible for:
- Defining long-term objectives for the manufacturing department, aligning them with overall business goals.
- Driving operational excellence to minimize downtime and optimize efficiency.
- Continuing the expansion and development of manufacturing processes and frameworks across the GMP cleanroom facilities.
- Supporting technology transfer projects from the research and development teams.
- Spearheading departmental improvements as the facilities grow. You will do this through the evaluation of existing processes and growing the team where required.
- Leading the daily organisational activities of the GMP team and taking responsibility for staff training.
- Fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and excellence, whilst driving initiatives to enhance the manufacturing process, reduce waste, and maintain product quality.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Tech Transfer, Commercial, and Supply Chain, to support product development and commercialisation efforts.
- Analysing production data and performance metrics to identify opportunities for process improvement and cost optimisation.
Skills and Experience Needed
The ideal candidate will have the following:
- BSc / MSc / PhD in Biology (or equivalent biological degree) (desired)
- Proven track record of success in leadership roles within biological manufacturing or production operations.
- Expertise within internal technology transfer of R&D projects to manufacturing including scale-up, process optimisation and stability testing (essential)
- Prior experience working within a GMP environment and strong understanding of GMP documentation (essential)
- Proven experience in leading manufacturing teams and leading manufacturing projects (essential)
- A background that involves molecular or cellular biology (ideal/desired)
