Accelerant is seeking a talented and experienced Director of Engineering to lead 1-2 of our full-stack engineering teams within the Product & Technology group. This role is a critical part of the Engineering Management team and emphasizes people management, team development, and cross-functional collaboration to drive the success of our engineering efforts. As a leader within the Engineering Management team, you'll be responsible for supporting and developing the engineering talent, ensuring alignment with our OKRs, and enabling teams to build high-quality, impactful SaaS applications.
Core Responsibilities
- Team Development & Mentorship: Invest in your team members by promoting continuous growth, offering guidance and support, and fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Strategic Focus: Ensure that teams are working on the right priorities based on established OKRs, aligning efforts with Accelerant's broader business goals.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as a bridge between Product, Design, and Engineering. Work closely with Product Managers and Product Designers in cross-functional product teams to deliver cohesive, user-centered solutions.
- Engineering Excellence: Drive technical and operational excellence by supporting engineering best practices, implementing scalable solutions, and focusing on continuous improvement within your teams.
- Performance Management: Monitor and guide the performance of your team members, providing regular feedback and helping each individual reach their career potential.
Typical Duties in an Agile Environment
- Sprint Planning & Prioritization: Lead sprint planning, helping the team focus on high-priority tasks and objectives.
- Backlog & Process Management: Oversee backlog refinement and maintain clarity around task priorities.
- Bridging Short and Long Term: Develop and maintain a 5-sprint rolling plan to bridge short-term sprint planning with mid- and long-term objectives, helping the team stay proactive and aligned with broader goals.
- Continuous Improvement: Facilitate retrospectives to enhance team dynamics and identify areas for process improvement.
Technical Requirements
- Full-Stack SaaS Understanding: A solid understanding of full-stack SaaS applications and best practices is necessary to effectively support and guide teams.
- Familiarity with the Stack: Familiarity with our stack, which includes TypeScript (for both frontend and backend), Svelte, Node.js/Nest.js, AWS, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC), is preferred, though experience with similar technologies and frameworks is also valuable.
- Best Practices: Deep knowledge of industry best practices in software engineering, Agile methodologies, and modern DevOps practices to support scalable, maintainable development.
Qualifications
- Experience: 5-7 years as an engineering manager, ideally leading full-stack teams in a SaaS environment.
- Leadership Skills: Proven track record of effective team leadership, performance management, and fostering a positive, growth-oriented environment.
- Strategic Mindset: Strong analytical skills, able to make data-driven decisions, and balance between hands-on support and strategic planning.
- Collaborative Approach: Ability to work effectively in cross-functional product teams, collaborating closely with Product Management and Design on a day-to-day basis.

This position is open to remote candidates across the U.S., Canada, UK, and Europe, who have the flexibility to work with our teams distributed across Europe and North America. Most cross-team collaboration happens in the mornings of the Eastern Time Zone.
