Orbit is the SFF imprint of Little, Brown. Launched in 1974, for the last fifty years Orbit has been publishing the most outstanding books in science fiction and fantasy: novels that have swept the board for awards, been global bestsellers, forged new paths and pushed the boundaries of genre fiction. What you'll be doingYou'll be supporting the senior publishing team with editorial tasks, with a particular focus on timely delivery of special editions and liaison with special edition customers.
You'll be a special editions 'super-user' for the whole of Little, Brown Book Group, becoming an expert in special edition processes and being on hand to offer guidance across the company on best practice.
With a strong passion for the SFF and horror genre, you'll be commissioning and developing a small number of titles per year for the Orbit and Run For It lists, as well as managing a number of authors' backlist effectively and profitably.
Who we are looking forThe successful candidate will have:
- Great knowledge of SFF and horror market, as well as awareness of the special edition market
- Proven experience in an editorial or publishing role
- Full understanding of publishing process (and willingness to learn in fast-developing new areas)
- Fantastic administrative and organisational skills
- Proven project management skills
- A strong ability to learn new systems and processes quickly
- A meticulous eye for detail
- Structural editing and proofreading experience
- Superb communication skills
- A proactive, quality-orientated and consumer-focussed outlook
- An aptitude to work well as part of a large team
- Great computer literacy and aptitude (Microsoft Office, able to pick up new digital skills as required)
- A familiarity with Biblio ideally (though this can be trained)

The role will be based at our London office, Carmelite House, with a blend of in-office (3 days) and homeworking (2 days) per week.
