Electrician

We are hiring a Maintenance Electrician to work within the Estates & Facilities team at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust provides NHS care and treatment for people with mental health problems in seven London boroughs and nationally.

Main duties of the job

You will cover community properties. Within your duties as a Maintenance Electrician you will need to be keen and enthusiastic. The main activities are maintenance, reactive repairs, compliance monitoring, and associated remedial work.

• Applicants should be able to prioritise their work
• Identify parts and materials required for specific tasks
• Understand and carry out tasks from appropriate technical instructions/drawings, specifications in a safe, tidy manner
• Be capable of working on their own initiative to a high standard
• Be able to demonstrate knowledge in electrical maintenance work, reactive repairs, compliance monitoring, and associated remedial work
• In the performance of your role you will be expected to form good working relationships and show a customer service approach with clients, staff, and contract personnel.

In keeping with our obligations under the new Coronavirus Regulations 2021 in relation to Care Home visits, the successful candidate will be required to provide evidence of full vaccination status against Covid-19.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

1. To undertake planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance, and emergency works as demanded by a Hospital of this type.
2. To understand the workings of buildings, engineering services, and systems in NHS/Trust premises.
3. To carry out work in a timely manner as requested using the current works requisition system.
4. To work as part of a departmental team and where necessary support colleagues of all levels and disciplines as required.
5. To provide a maintenance service to all Trust buildings and off-site properties.
6. To maintain continuity of service there will be times when extra hours, altered work patterns, duties, or location are required.
7. To keep up to date with current legislation and attend training courses as directed by Estate Management.
8. To be able to work safely in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act.
9. To be compassionate and mindful to our clients.
10. To drive between trust properties in a safe and timely manner adhering to trust policies.

Person specification Qualifications

• NVQ3- or equivalent in relevant trade
• BSth edition + amendments
• Health & Safety qualification in one of the following: Abrasive wheel certificate, Safe Use of Ladders, Safe use/work from scaffold towers (PASMA), COSHH, Manual Handling, CSCS card
• City & Guilds 2391 Periodic Inspection & Testing

Knowledge and Experience

• Knowledge of the compliance demands in healthcare premises
• To be able to work in occupied areas safely
• Previous NHS experience in this type of environment
