Band 6 Emergency Department Junior Sister/ Charge Nurse reporting to Senior Sister/Charge Nurse at the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate, Kent.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for the assessment of clients both adult and paediatric entering the Emergency Department, prioritisation of treatment, delivery of care and evaluation. To carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and required to demonstrate procedures and to supervise qualified and/or unqualified staff.

The post will require the holder to work on other sites within East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust, in order to meet service requirements and to ensure that staff maintain and develop their skills.

Person specification Qualifications & Training
  • NMC Level 1 or Level 15 Registered Nurse
  • Degree (BSc) or equivalent in a health-related subject, or working towards ILS course
  • ALS course
Skills and Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years recent post-registration experience; with 1 year recent Emergency Department experience
  • Effective use of research and implementation of evidence-based practice
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritise and organise own workload and workload of others
  • Experience of contributing to research and audit programmes
  • Experience of delivering presentations
Knowledge
  • Understanding of clinical governance and risk assessment
  • Clear understanding of safeguarding procedures
  • Understanding of national access targets regarding ED patients
  • RCEM targets for ED

  • To be aware of and adhere to the Trust's Vision, Mission and Values

The ability to converse easily and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for all customer-facing roles.
