Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

The Opportunity

This position is within our award-winning Business and Investor Advisory (BIA) team! With teams in London and Manchester, you decide which office you work from on a hybrid basis. Typical projects undertaken within the group include providing commercial, technical and financial advice to financial investors, funders, developers, and international finance institutions, and providing economic and commercial strategic advice to energy companies, utilities, regulators, and governments.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality quantitative analysis and advice as part of the Energy Market Analytics team, which will include commercial due diligence, policy and regulatory advice, energy market modelling, and strategic advice. Ideally, candidates should have commercial/economic and/or regulatory/policy experience within the energy field. You will be responsible for supporting the delivery of projects to a range of public and private sector clients and preparing proposals to secure work. A key responsibility will be contributing to the development of Arup's modelling and economic tools, including conducting robust quantitative analysis of modelling results.

Is this role right for you?

The successful candidate will have previous experience in economic and/or energy markets analysis and modelling, and providing advice to public or private organisations based on economic research and analysis. Specific experience in energy (electricity and gas) sectors is required, although you will need to have the ability to apply economic concepts across a variety of fields. Candidates should have an understanding of the energy market within consultancy, government organisations, or energy companies.

Requirements:

  • Core understanding of energy markets.
  • Knowledge of both Excel & PowerPoint as tools to undertake and present analysis.
  • Comfortable with technical analysis and ability to suggest the best analytical approaches.
  • Prior experience with statistical modelling preferred (modelling experience in Matlab or Eviews).
  • BSc in Economics or related discipline.
